Advanced Pharmacist (Antimicrobial Specialist) role at Hywel Dda University Health Board (Prince Philip Hospital). Band 8a, permanent position. Working pattern: Full-time, Part-time, or Job Share. Location: Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli, SA14 8QF.
Job Summary
We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic pharmacist to lead the antimicrobial stewardship strategy within Prince Philip Hospital, allowing the post holder to make a real difference to antimicrobial resistance. The post holder will be a patient-centred team member who collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and will be able to work independently with excellent prioritisation and initiative.
Applicants must be registered as pharmacists with the GPhC and have completed a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent).
Responsibilities
* Lead and deliver antimicrobial stewardship across the hospital in collaboration with the Medicines Management Team, Consultant Microbiologists, and other Antimicrobial Pharmacists.
* Support the development and implementation of local and national antimicrobial prescribing guidelines; participate in audits and provide feedback to prescribers.
* Work towards Welsh Government targets and contribute to education and training of healthcare workers in antimicrobial stewardship.
* Split time between antibiotic-related duties and other clinical duties; monitor financial expenditure; support core pharmacy services on the wards and in the dispensary.
* Coordinate and deliver a patient-focused clinical pharmacy service within general medical wards, with potential for development into pharmacist-led clinics.
* Participate in weekend and on-call rota as required.
* Engage in ongoing professional development and support rollout of EPMA (electronic patient medication administration) across the MDT.
Qualifications
* Essential: Masters degree in Pharmacy; General Pharmaceutical Council registration; Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent).
* Desirable: Independent Prescriber; Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing qualifications (or equivalent if role includes aseptics); Registered as QC if role includes aseptics; member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society; accredited supervisor for foundation or post-foundation pharmacists.
Experience
* Essential: Specialist knowledge of medicines management systems and processes in an integrated NHS setting; knowledge and experience of healthcare; specialist knowledge of own field of practice gained through diploma-level training and experience.
* Desirable: Demonstrated specialist knowledge in more than one field; practice research experience; training/education of pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals; experience of managing change and service improvement.
Language requirements
* Desirable: Welsh speaker – level 1.
Other requirements
* Flexible approach to the needs of the service to undertake on-call work, weekend and evening opening.
* Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner.
