Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Clinical Facilitator to work within the Paediatric Community Neuro developmental Service.

The role will be based across sites within East Lancashire to assist in the smooth running of the Community Neurodevelopmental Paediatric outpatient clinics.


Main duties of the job

* To assist the Community Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics Team by providing a high quality clinic nurse service within the Neurodevelopment outpatient setting across all sites. The role is to ensure the smooth running of outpatient clinics, meeting the needs of the children and their families, responsible for liaising with appropriate staff.
* The post holder will work without direct supervision from qualified staff.
* To develop and maintain sound management and organizational skills.
* To act as patient advocate, ensuring privacy, dignity and confidentiality are met.
* To monitor and ensure patient satisfaction and be proactive in managing any issues that are identified

An exciting Clinical Facilitator opportunity has arisen offering the chance to be part of the Paediatric Community Neurodevelopmental Service across East Lancashire.

Based across sites you will be required to work flexibly to cover the needs of the service.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide an efficient and quality reception service for all visitors, with a non judgmental approach and promote a welcoming environment, respecting the differences within cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds.

Maintain stock levels of all relevant forms/information leaflets etc. within the clinic rooms. Assist with general clerical duties, photocopying as required.

Answer the telephone in a courteous manner, dealing with queries, taking messages and referring calls to the appropriate person as necessary in accordance with guidelines of confidentiality.

Ensure the safety of patient records and information at all times in this sensitive area of work.

Maintain confidentiality. To follow written protocols when dealing face to face / telephone liaison with patients.

Communicates effectively and appropriately when dealing with conflicts arising within the clinic setting.

To work independently without any direct guidance or supervision from staff. To liaise with the wider multi-disciplinary team and other agencies.

Recognize own professional boundaries, seeking advice and support as necessary.

To be aware of the signs and symptoms of illness in children and act accordingly.

Ensure that all equipment and toys meet safety standards

Organize own workload

To maintain good working relationships with other members of Community Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics and the associated multi disciplinary team.

Ensure when exposed to bodily fluid, that adequate precautions are taken to minimize the risk of cross infection in related to the safe disposal of bodily fluids.

Assist with the smooth running of the clinics to enable the service to be effective.

Provide reassurance support to children and carers/parents.

To obtain children’s growth measurements and to record these within the medical records.

To obtain children's blood pressures and heart rate monitoring and to document and escalate the results to the consultant or specialist practitioner reviewing the child and young person.

To ensure the clinic environment is adequate for its intended purpose.

Responsible for cleaning equipment in the weighing room.

Responsible for annual maintenance of equipment in the weighing room.

Participate in the induction and orientation of new staff/students to the department.

To adhere to the Trust uniform policy

Promote professional working relationships with parents, colleagues and the multidisciplinary team involved with the children and families accessing the service.

Maintain confidentiality and if required to break this confidentiality then a clear rationale is given to the reason for this.

When requested, to assist where a difficult procedure/consultation is anticipated

To liaise with children’s families and ensuring where English is not the first language then alternate and reliable sources are utilised; to ensure the information is adequately delivered.

Have an ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding.

To be able to present factual information and refer questions to others where appropriate.

To provide advice to families and other professionals. To be aware of own limitations when providing advice to others.

Ensuring all documentation is contemporaneous in keeping with ELHT’s record keeping policy.

Attend regular meetings, appropriate to role.

Qualifications


Essential criteria

* NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent/ willing to work towards


Desirable criteria

* NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent/willing to work towards


Experience


Essential criteria

* Significant Experience of working with children with and their families


Desirable criteria

* Experience of working in a health care or related setting


Knowledge and Skills


Essential criteria

* Experience of working with children and families with health needs
* A basic understanding of organisation of nursing care


Desirable criteria

* Experience of working within a paediatric outpatient department

Essential criteria

* Motivated, ability to work within a team whilst being flexible, able to priorities workload, be innovative and an effective communicator.
* An ability to deal with sensitive information is essential.
* Friendly and approachable manner
