What's involved with this role: Management Accountant Newcastle 5283608 £18.26 per hour 6-12 month contract To apply for this role you must have the experience and skills to provide high-quality financial advice, prepare and monitor budgets, and support statutory accounting processes. Role Purpose To provide high-quality financial advice, analysis, and support to directors, heads of service, budget managers, and other stakeholders in the effective management of revenue and capital budgets. Key Responsibilities Work collaboratively with directors, heads of service, budget managers, and other clients to prepare and develop revenue budgets, providing professional financial advice and challenge where appropriate. Prepare and present timely and accurate revenue and capital monitoring information, responding to queries and offering advice to support effective financial decision-making. Support the finalisation of revenue and capital outturn positions, ensuring maximisation of income from external sources and contributing to the production of statutory accounts, including the preparation of working papers for external audit. Provide advice, guidance, and challenge to ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal controls, and accounting standards, supporting managers in fulfilling their financial responsibilities. Develop, review, and maintain accurate accounting records and financial systems, and provide guidance and training to finance and non-finance staff on financial systems and controls. Prepare and monitor financial information in line with corporate and directorate requirements, ensuring consistency and accuracy across reporting outputs. Complete government returns and grant claims, ensuring all supporting documentation and working papers are accurate and audit-ready. Provide financial support and advice to corporate and directorate projects, including the preparation of business cases, financial appraisals, and business plans. Essential Experience and Skills Proven experience in preparing and monitoring revenue and/or capital budgets, including variance analysis, costing staffing structures, and assessing financial implications of projects. Demonstrated ability to provide clear, accurate, and timely financial advice to budget managers and senior stakeholders. Experience in year-end accounts closedown processes, including preparing notes to the accounts and managing debtors and creditors. Skilled in providing training, support, and guidance to both finance and non-finance staff on financial systems and controls. Strong understanding of technical accounting guidance, standards, and financial regulations. Extensive experience using financial systems (Newcastle City Council currently uses e5 by Advanced Business Solutions). High level of competence in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
