Salary: TMS / UPS + TLR 1C

We are delighted you have shown interest for the position of Head of Phase at Cwmbran High School.

We are looking for an exceptional pastoral/wellbeing staff member who will lead and manage the academic progress of pupils across a school key stage and deliver high quality pastoral support; a dynamic candidate who can demonstrate drive and motivation and is outstanding in their leadership.

The school needs a person who is a strong, reflective and resilient individual, who will integrate seamlessly into the team and be an integral part of our road to success.

Our pastoral/wellbeing team is composed of Phase Leads, Heads of Year and Deputy Heads of Year. Together they support pupils across many aspects of school life. We seek an outstanding Phase Leader to lead either our upper (year 10‑11), middle (year 8‑9) or lower phase (transition & year 6). The right candidate will provide exceptional leadership and management of their team to ensure outstanding pastoral provision and exceptional outcomes for our learners. The phase allocated to the successful applicant will be based on the strengths, leadership qualities, characteristics and relevant experience identified at interview.

The three Heads of Phase roles are:

* Year 5, 6 and 7 Lead (to further establish close links with our six primary partner schools)
* Years 8 and 9 Lead (to ensure effective development of the CfW and ensure maximum progress)
* Years 10, 11 Lead (to ensure pupil academia is paramount whilst developing partnership links with post 16 providers/college, or workplace)

This is a fabulous opportunity for a serving pastoral leader to further develop as a professional and support any future application for an Assistant Headteacher Post.

The successful candidate will be line managed by our Deputy Headteacher and would be valuably supported by the skilled wellbeing team including Learning Coaches and Attendance Team who provide outstanding provision to our pupils.

Our school is at a significant point in its development, and we are keen to appoint an outstanding staff member who has the high expectations, experiences and commitment to raise standards of teaching and learning and skills and support the individual needs of all learners.

We are committed to ensuring all our pupils develop as successful individuals, from our most vulnerable to our more able and talented learners. We recognise that for pupils to achieve their potential, their learning needs to be personalised to meet their individual needs. We also recognise that learning is more than academic achievement. It should be centred on the development of the whole child, including their personal development. Ultimately, we strive to be a school where learning is valued, and pupils achieve their potential in a happy and safe community where they show respect and tolerance for others.

As an inclusive school every member of our school community is valued. We expect the best from everyone, whether pupils are more able academically or talented at sports or the arts or have additional needs, we commit to ensuring the best possible learning journey for each individual, building their capacity to become skilled, life‑long learners who are socially aware, healthy and active citizens.

Staff professional development is fundamental to our improvement journey of which you will be responsible. We are committed to investing heavily in providing staff with a package of relevant and meaningful support, tailored to individual needs.

Information on how to apply: You must demonstrate how you meet the Essential criteria listed in the attached Person Specification to secure an interview. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on all successful applicants, which will include an Enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
