Job Summary
Join the Non‑Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) at Barts Health. This role delivers safe, timely transport for patients who are unable to travel by other means due to medical or mobility conditions. The Ambulance Driver will work with a variety of equipment, maintain a clean vehicle and provide dynamic risk assessments. This is a full‑time, permanent position with no sponsorship offered.
Key Responsibilities
* Providing safe, timely transport to and from Trust hospitals for medically‑needed patients.
* Transferring patients using wheelchairs, carry‑chairs, stair climbers or stretchers as required.
* Maintaining a clean, tidy, and well‑functioning vehicle.
* Reporting immediately any vehicle defects or accidents.
* Conducting dynamic risk assessments of patients and environments before transport.
Essential Qualifications
* BTEC or NVQ3 equivalent education.
* Good knowledge of UK geography.
* Clean driving licence.
* Full manual UK driving licence and 2 years driving experience.
Desirable Qualifications
* Advanced driving qualifications.
* Experience working in a healthcare setting, dealing with the elderly or infirm.
* Experience in a patient transport environment.
* Understanding of Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Caldicott principles.
* Experience of coordinating, reviewing and interpreting patient transfer requirements.
* Experience reporting incidents and near‑misses with effective handover.
* Appreciation of CCG, Patient User Group, Clinical groups and CQC requirements.

* Competent in dynamic risk assessment prior to patient transfer.
