Role Description
This is a full‑time on‑site role for a Paintings Conservator based in Scotland, United Kingdom. The Paintings Conservator will be responsible for the care, preservation, and restoration of artworks in the collection, including conducting technical examinations and condition assessments. The role involves documentation, designing conservation strategies, collaborating with curators and other specialists, and assisting in exhibition preparation and installation. Additionally, the conservator will contribute to the improvement of preventive conservation practices to ensure the long‑term safeguarding of the collection.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated expertise in Paintings Conservation, including knowledge of restoration techniques, materials, and principles
* Proficiency in technical analysis of paintings, including photography and imaging technologies
* Excellent skills in documentation, condition assessment, and conservation reporting
* Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with curators, artists, and other professionals
* A detail‑oriented mindset and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
* Understanding of environmental and preventive conservation practices
* Postgraduate degree in Paintings Conservation or a related discipline
* Experience in a museum, gallery, or cultural heritage institution is highly desirable
