Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Team Manager to join our residential care team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled care professional to take the next step in their career while making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people. You will work closely with the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager to deliver outstanding care standards.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
* Lead and supervise residential care workers during allocated shifts
* Provide guidance and support to care staff in their daily practice
* Ensure effective communication between all team members
* Support staff with challenging situations and provide practical solutions
* Act as shift leader and key decision maker in the absence of senior management
Direct Care Provision
* Deliver high-quality, person-centred care to children and young people
* Implement care plans and risk assessments effectively
* Support young people with daily living activities and personal development
* Promote positive relationships and emotional wellbeing
* Respond appropriately to challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques
Quality Standards
* Ensure compliance with Ofsted regulations and company policies
* Maintain accurate care records and incident reports
* Monitor the home environment to ensure it meets required standards
* Participate in quality assurance processes and reviews
* Support preparation for Ofsted inspections and regulatory visits
Safeguarding & Protection
* Act as a safeguarding champion within the team
* Recognize signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation
* Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately
* Maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards
* Work collaboratively with external agencies and professionals
Professional Development
* Participate in regular supervision with senior management
* Attend mandatory training and continuous professional development
* Share knowledge and best practice with team members
* Mentor new staff members and support their development
* Keep up-to-date with sector developments and best practice
Essential Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) - Essential
* Minimum 18 months experience in residential childcare settings
* Experience working with vulnerable children and young people
* Understanding of child development and attachment theory
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks
Skills & Competencies
* Strong leadership and team working abilities
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
* Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound judgements
* Good organizational and time management skills
* Basic IT skills including care planning systems
* Flexibility to work various shift patterns including nights and weekends

Desirable Requirements
* Level 4 qualification in Health and Social Care or related field
* Previous experience in a team leader or senior care worker role
* Knowledge of therapeutic approaches and trauma-informed care
* Experience working with children with complex needs or disabilities
* First Aid qualification
* Valid UK driving licence

Working Pattern
This role requires flexibility to work across various shift patterns including:
* Day shifts, evening shifts, and overnight stays
* Weekend and bank holiday working
* Cover for planned and unplanned absences
* Participation in the on-call rota system
