Location: Falkirk (Primarily Site-Based) • Contract: Permanent • Salary: £26,000 – £29,000 per annum
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Falkirk. This is a fantastic opportunity to start your career in geotechnical and environmental site investigation, gaining hands-on site experience from day one. You will work primarily in the field, supporting experienced engineers across a variety of site investigation and geotechnical projects, and you will be mentored toward professional accreditation.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the planning and implementation of geotechnical site investigations.
* Carry out on-site testing and data collection, including trial pitting and soil sampling.
* Assist in the preparation of factual and interpretive geotechnical reports.
* Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of soil and rock samples.
* Liaise with clients, subcontractors and site teams under the guidance of senior engineers.
* Represent Aitken Laboratories professionally on site and in client interactions.
* Observe all health, safety and environment rules and procedures at all times.
* Maintain accurate project records and follow company procedures and industry best practices.
Requirements
Essential:
* Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across Scotland and the North of England.
* Enthusiasm for fieldwork and a willingness to work primarily on site.
* Good communication and written skills, with the ability to engage professionally with clients and colleagues.
* Strong attention to detail and a methodical, organised approach to work.
* Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and develop within a professional environment.
Desirable:
* Understanding of Eurocodes or British Standards relevant to geotechnical engineering.
* Any prior site experience (e.g., placements, internships or vacation work).
* Interest in working toward professional chartership (e.g., Geological Society or ICE).
