An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Children's Community Nursing Team in Knowsley for an experienced, skilled and passionate Clinical Nurse Specialist. You will lead and support the team in providing high quality care to children, young people and their families with complex health needs and at end of life.
You will be a clinical leader of the team and expected to provide supervision, training, and to share knowledge with junior staff. The team also provides support to specialist schools and has a bladder and bowel element.
This role is part of service development throughout St Helens, Knowsley and the Mid-Mersey area. The post is subject to an enhanced children’s and adult’s barred list Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Responsibilities
* Plan and manage complex activities and programmes that require constant adjustment to meet the changing needs of children and young people.
* Provide care using additional equipment the child/young person may require on a daily basis or in an emergency.
* Have an awareness of the support required for children and young people with tracheostomies.
* Provide care for children and young people requiring urinary catheters and PEG feeds in school and community settings in line with a competency framework.
* Act as a trainer in specific areas of clinical expertise to train new team members and school staff when appropriate.
* Facilitate training from specialist nurses for educational staff for the children and young people when appropriate.
* Support children and young people, their families and carers at the end‑of‑life stage, including bereavement.
* Serve as a key worker, sharing knowledge within the team, developing strong therapeutic relationships with CYP and their families, and empowering them to lead and take ownership of their own health plans and needs.
* Participate in the development of the team and collaborate with wider Children, Young People and Families (CYP) teams across the region.
