We are seeking a young person centred Matron to undertake clinical and operational management support for CAMHS Inpatient care at Plym Bridge House.

Plym Bridge House is a CAMHS Unit that includes a Children and Young People’s Place of Safety. The unit cares for young people aged 12-17 who require care in a GAU setting.

We welcome applicants who will help us lead the development of these services, by embedding our philosophy of care and ensuring care is delivered to the highest standard. This is an opportunity to provide credible and visible clinical leadership, focus on enhancing the quality of care and refining a culture of least restrictive, recovery focused outcomes. Engagement and participation of young people in service development is a key component of this post.

The post holder must possess registration with the NMC/HPC and substantial relevant experience at a senior clinical or managerial (Band 7) or equivalent position. You will also have a thorough understanding of the challenges and rewards of supporting young people in mental health distress.

Main duties of the job

The Modern Matron provides professional leadership to the CAMHS Tier 4 in-patient unit, Children and Young People’s Place of Safety that sit within the Children, Young People and Families Service.

The post holder provides line management and support to the unit/ward/team managers as appropriate with the support of the Directorate Manager.

Demonstrate a sound knowledge and provide a clear vision to the strategic direction of identified clinical services. Ensuring excellence in service delivery and clinical governance in conjunction with other nursing, allied health professionals and medical leaders.

Work with South West Provider Collaborative Case Managers, Contract leads and Quality Leads to ensure the care delivered is in line with the Tier 4 specification and the access and referrals process.

Provide leadership to ensure systems work collaboratively with the referral and admission and discharge process to and from Tier 4 inpatient facilities.

This role may not be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.

Job responsibilities

Professional / Clinical Care

1. Responsible for the day to day management of staff groups, liaising with appropriate managers and facilitating Unit and relevant Team Managers and their deputies in dealing with issues such as staffing and operational issues.
2. Ensure appropriate delegation of and participation in out-of-hours rota / on-call rota where appropriate.
3. Provide expert clinical leadership and support to ward/unit/Team managers and nurses acting as a role model in provision of clear direction for nursing and practice development.
4. To support and ensure the implementation of clinical supervision for staff within areas of responsibility.
5. Where standards for facilities services are not met, take corrective action as appropriate.
6. Provide line management to delegated personnel within the service structure.
7. Provide nursing and managerial knowledge and experience to any member of the multi-disciplinary team in relation to patient care, ensuring a visible presence is maintained in all clinical areas.
8. The role includes a balance of clinical and managerial responsibilities which may vary according to need and to be agreed by the Directorate manager.
9. Provide clinical supervision and support to nursing and other professional colleagues.
10. Lead on specific aspects of nursing and service development in agreement with the Associate Director / Directorate manager.
11. Set, agree and monitor standards for clinical practice and patient care and ensure teams have the right skills to deliver a high quality service.
12. Develop opportunities to enhance service user involvement and carers.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Current NMC/HCP registration in a field that would give significant exposure to children and young people who require mental health support.
* Degree/Masters level study or equivalent
* Evidence of recent continuing personal learning / professional development in areas relevant to caring for client groups with mental health needs
* RMN or RN Child
* Evidence of recent continuing personal learning/professional development in areas relevant to caring for young people with mental health needs


Knowledge

* Knowledge of current NHS policies / processes and structures especially relating to acute inpatient care
* Detailed knowledge of standards of record keeping
* Ability to prioritise own workload
* Ability to work on own initiative and also as an effective team member
* Excellent verbal and written skills
* Good numerical skills
* Excellent facilitation and arbitration skills
* To be a key figure in the development of Services
* Awareness of key issues in care and how they impact on service development
* Demonstrate awareness of own leadership style and leadership styles of others
* Ability to implement models of care which have an evidence base to delivery of high-quality care


Skills

* Effective people management skills with ability to inspire, create positive relationships and provide support to all team members
* Experience of working with care pathways
* Experience of data collection, basic analysis,
* Experience of using Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and electronic mail
* Experience in large project work / management
* Experience of investigatory processes including PSIRF
* Service wide development work including co-production and service user engagement.
* Ability to analyse data and information to recognise patterns/themes and formulate action plans


Experience

* Significant and relevant experience at Team leader (Band 7) role in acute setting or similar setting.
* Experience of leading a team
* Experience of implementing change within a team.
* Post Holder is able to demonstrate outcomes achieved following implementation of service development
* Experience of working with recovery focused models of care, which are based on least restrictive principles.
* Experience of working in Childrens Mental Health Services

£55,690 to £62,682 a year, per annum, pro-rata
