Our Ambition Our ambition at Highland Hospice is to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time so that everyone living with a life-shortening illness is supported to enjoy the life they have left, cherish the things that matter most to them and die with the dignity they deserve. Hospice care focuses on the individual and puts the needs of them and their families at the centre of decision-making. By managing their pain and other physical symptoms, we help make time and space for reflection, for gaining perspective and for achieving a measure of calm. Crucially, our team also offers advice with the emotional, social and spiritual issues that may arise and works with patients, families and carers at a time of transition to help them enjoy, value and commemorate life. As well as providing services direct to those in need, we work in partnership with our NHS colleagues and local communities and support professional and unpaid carers by sharing resources and offering training and mentoring, so they can provide the best care they can. Highland Hospice services are offered free of charge to all those in the Highlands who need them. We are an independent local charity reliant on our community for the majority of our funding. Highland Hospice has been providing specialist palliative care and related services across the Highlands since 1987. Highland Hospice is a company limited by guarantee and is an independent charity funded mainly by voluntary contributions and NHS Highland. The organisation employs 210 people and benefits from the support of approximately 900 volunteers. Membership of the Board of Trustees Highland Hospice is seeking up to five new Board Members, with a proposed start in September 2025 who will help us achieve our ambition. As well as a commitment to the purpose and values of Highland Hospice and an ability to contribute to strategy and governance, we are seeking specific skills and knowledge in the following areas: Qualified accountants with good current technical experience Recent or current commercial experience and sound financial understanding Care, clinical or hospice experience – ideally in services working in partnership and with different communities Digital experience with understanding of the opportunities, challenges and current thinking in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing area. We want our board to be representative and understanding of the communities we serve. We will also, as the board mix changes, have opportunities for individuals to chair some committees and welcome those with this interest. If you are interested in working with our board, but don’t have board experience, we would also be happy to talk with you to discuss how we could support your development.
