Overview

37.5 hours per week - Fixed Term 18 months. Livewell Southwest is seeking a resilient, innovative, and motivated Occupational Therapist to join the CAMHS Crisis and Home Treatment Pathway. The role focuses on crisis support and intensive home treatment for children and young people (CYP) experiencing mental health crisis and emotional distress. The service uses evidence-based assessments and interventions aligned with the iTHRIVE model, with a trauma‑informed, proactive approach. The postholder will work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.


Responsibilities

* Work within the CAMHS Crisis and HTT as an Occupational Therapist, focusing on the home treatment and therapeutic aspects of the pathway.
* Work with families in their homes, education, and community settings, and at base as appropriate/required.
* Provide specialist occupational therapy assessments and reports regarding children and young people’s daily living skills and occupational performance.
* Demonstrate effective skills in risk assessment and reassessment; communicate concerns accurately and in a timely fashion.
* Organise own workload and manage time effectively.
* Be aware of NICE guidance relevant to the post.
* Work with the wider stakeholder group by attending multi‑agency meetings (e.g., child protection case conferences, Early Help Assessments, Education Health Care Plan meetings).
* May support colleagues on the CAMHS Duty Response rota.
* Contribute to the development of team protocols and clinical practice, proposing changes for discussion.
* Keep up to date with safeguarding training and policies.
* Co‑facilitate therapeutic groups for identified CYP and evaluate outcomes and progress.
* Communicate complex information with clarity and sensitivity to families or carers; ensure appropriate information sharing with multidisciplinary and external colleagues.
* Provide clinical assessment and formulation, risk assessment and management, care planning, and a range of therapeutic interventions; hold a caseload as per the job plan; determine discharge points in collaboration with the CYP and family; ensure documentation complies with Livewell Southwest policies including CPA.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and arrange own clinical supervision.
* Remain familiar with Livewell Southwest policies and procedures (e.g., lone working policy).
* Ensure agreed outcome measures are adhered to within the area of work; promote service improvement and involve CYP and families to improve CAMHS provision.
* Assist with management of resources and equipment prescription following assessment and intervention; maintain comprehensive records in line with data protection requirements.
* Organise and mentor students/placements; provide supervision to junior clinicians; participate in ongoing development of the OT service with families and the MDT.
* Undertake corporate duties as reasonably required to support team objectives; ensure duties comply with policy and professional registration; maintain a professional portfolio in line with HCPC/COT guidance; establish OT CAMHS networks and attend relevant professional meetings.


Qualifications and Skills

* Essential: Degree in Occupational Therapy; HCPC registration; commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
* Knowledge of clinical governance, mental health legislation.
* Experience as an Occupational Therapist in Mental Health or Paediatrics; experience with CYP who have complex social, emotional, neurodevelopmental, and/or learning disability needs; experience working in a multidisciplinary team; experience of group work; experience using sensory processing and modulation techniques with evidence-based practice.
* Ability to travel across Plymouth; flexible working; the post may require adjustments to meet demand.


Desirable:

* Child Protection Training; BAOT member; post-qualifying CAMHS training; Sensory Integration training or related certification; experience as a clinical educator or supervisor.

* Essential: ability to travel across Plymouth; flexible working with Livewell Southwest and partner agencies; reasonable adjustments as required.
* Desirable: car owner/driver; adjustments under the Disability Discrimination Act.
