Protocol Education is working in partnership with a dynamic Alternative Provision Unit (APU) in Newham, and they’re looking for a committed and energetic Teaching Assistant to join their team ASAP.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a sports or coaching background to bring their leadership, teamwork, and motivation skills into an educational setting, supporting young people aged 11–16 who have been excluded or struggled in mainstream education.
You’ll be a positive role model, helping students develop confidence, structure, and resilience, both in and out of the classroom.
Your Role Will Include:
1. Providing structured 1:1 or small group support for students with social, emotional or behavioural needs.
2. Using your sports/coaching background to engage students in a practical, hands-on way.
3. Helping manage behaviour and promote positive routines through consistency and respect.
4. Supporting staff with lesson delivery, classroom activities, and reintegration strategies.
5. Contributing to a safe, encouraging, and non-judgemental learning space.
Who We’re Looking For:
6. Experience in sport, coaching, mentoring or working with young people (formal or informal).
7. A confident communicator who can build positive relationships with students who’ve struggled in mainstream settings.
8. Calm, reliable, and proactive.
9. Ability to think on your feet.
10. Must have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one.

11. Full-time position.
12. Starting asap.
13. Based in a well-supported Alternative Provision Unit in Newham.
14. Term-time only (Monday to Friday).
15. Excellent staff support and training opportunities.
