South Tyneside andSunderland NHS FT are currently seeking to appoint outstanding individuals tofulfil the critical and rewarding role of Directorate Manager.

These exciting rolessit in a number of clinical divisions and offer the right people an opportunityto work with clinical partners in order to influence at senior manager leveland take a lead role in the development for future services.

Successful candidates will be educated to degree level or equivalent and are required to demonstrate experience of working at senior management level with a proven track record of achieving targets whilst managing large multi-professional teams.

It is essential that you evidence experience of HR management, budgetary management, performance and information management and of planning and developing strategy as well as possessing excellent communication and organisational skills.


Main duties of the job

As DirectorateManager you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of an operationalarea across two hospital sites and will possess a strong ability to buildsuccessful teams whilst influencing and motivating staff to deliver challengingtargets through times of change. Youwill need to be business focused with an ability to analyse and present complexdata whilst being sensitive to clinical and political demands both within andout-with the organisation.

Within theDirectorate structure you will work closely with the Clinical Director todevelop and deliver the Directorates strategy in line with the Trust strategyand you will need to be an innovator who can use both qualitative andquantitative information to drive improvements for patients and theorganisation.

The provision ofquality, safe and effective patient care is paramount and alongside theClinical Director, you will be expected to support clinicians to deliverimproved outcomes for patients through robust performance management, effectiverisk management strategies within a strong clinical governance framework andthe promotion of a positive, learning culture in which staff are empowered toshare ideas and drive progress.

Job responsibilities

To beresponsible for the day-to-day operational management of the directorate,ensuring that resources are deployed effectively and efficiently across bothhospital sites.

Toprovide support to the Clinical Director in a wide range of operational andbusiness activities.

Tosupport the Clinical Director in developing and delivering Directorateobjectives, goals, strategies and measures in accordance with the parametersset by the Trusts Executive.

To ensurethat key directorate performance targets for activity, expenditure, waitingtimes, waiting lists, complaints and other quality measures are met.

Todeputise for the Clinical Director as appropriate.

To workin partnership with key managers/staff within and out with the Directorate toensure that quality patient services are provided.

To workwith the Clinical Director to explore the potential of forming strategicalliances with cutting edge organisations and providers, both locally andnationally.

To workwith the Clinical Director to develop and deliver patient services that buildson the excellent reputation of the Trust.

To innovate and developnew services that enhance the patient experience and delivers value for theTrust.

Person Specification


Experience

* Significant experience at senior manager level including responsibility for planning and budgetary control for a directorate or service
* Experience of managing large multi-professional teams towards common objectives and targets
* Experience of HR management, budgetary management, performance and information management and of planning and developing strategy
* Proven track record of achieving challenging targets
* Experience of delivering complex programmes of change
* Experience in Health/Social care Sector
* Operational experience working in an acute hospital setting.


Skills and Knowledge

* Knowledge of the NHS
* Ability to build successful teams
* Ability to influence and motivate staff to deliver challenging targets
* Ability to present complex data
* Ability to manage conflict
* Proven record of pro-active performance
* Well-developed IT skills to manage and report on complex performance management information systems
* Effective problem solving skills using team when appropriate
* Ability to analyse complex financial and clinical data sets


Physical Skills

* Travel between sites and off site meetings as required
* Able to participate in an on-call rota

Qualifications

* Educated to first degree level or equivalent
* Evidence of other specialist management training to post graduate level
* ILM or other management training
* Leadership Training
