Job Purpose:
Manages the DHL Cargo Airline Pool Aviation Insurance under the direction of VP, Global Head of Aviation & Aerospace.
Assess and evaluate exposures arising from DHL Group business activities and provide risk financing solutions in line with the Group Insurance & Risk Management Strategy and within delegated authority.
Oversee effective and efficient provision of aviation insurance management services ensuring compliance to insurance regulations.
Evaluate and recommend clear risk management policies and procedures thus ensuring the smooth operation of the Global Aviation Insurance programme. Work in a consultative fashion to help local entities and airlines member of the Pool identify exposures and implement changes within agreed parameters in order to manage these exposures.
Act as a trusted advisor on aviation insurance matters including support to the contract risk management function ann provide a client liaison role to member airlines with respect to the DHL Cargo Airline Pool
Contribute to the overall aviation insurance strategy.
Your tasks:
* Develop and maintain an excellent working knowledge of the Group, its organisational structure and the key aviation risks arising from its scope of services.
* Develop and maintain an excellent working knowledge of the IRM service portfolio, IRM strategy and the risk financing strategy for event-based risks.
* Work closely with member airlines, the global aviation function and the brokers to provide the broadest ranging insurance placements in the market and to ensure that the policy remains compliant with changing local regulations.
* Review and assess the terms and conditions of insurances and ensure risks are properly addressed in the coverage provided.
* Assess claims trends and use loss data as well as engagement with the business to identify challenges and opportunities for the aviation insurance programme to respond appropriately and pragmatically to changes in the risk profile.
* Manage the processing of claims reported under the programme. Ensure incidents are reported, investigated and reported to insurers in accordance with policy terms, manage loss adjusters and recommend approval of payment requests received from insurers. Ensure timely payment from Marias Falls Insurance Company (MFI) and monitor payment flow from the brokers to the member airlines to ensure timeliness of the process.
* In respect of all aviation insurance exposures, ensure that contractual assumption of risk complies with insurance market practice and is in line with DHL's risk strategy in so far as acceptance of risk into the DHL Cargo Airline Pool is concerned. Where necessary, negotiate changes with airline partners and their representatives.
* Maintain a detailed working knowledge of transport and logistics terms and conditions and insurance regulatory matters as relates to aviation risks.
* Serve as a key active member of IRM's insurance job family team, interacting with colleagues to ensure business objectives are met and the organisation is performing to "best in class" standards.
* Responsible for the maintenance and development of the global aviation insurance programmes including:
* Maintaining, growing and reporting on market share.
* Leveraging global programmes, fully utilizing Group buying power and certainty of coverage.
* Ensure continuous improvement and optimisation of all aviation insurance processes and ensure seamless delivery via Insurance Operations.
* Undertake renewal processes ensuring full compliance to offer and acceptance processes, on time delivery of evidence of cover, assessment of claims vs premium adequacy and accurate programme financial reporting.
* Responsible for building and maintaining programme control and reporting processes including regular management and financial reporting.
* Participate in aviation programme broker and insurers negotiations as required.
* Working with the Aviation Insurance Team to peer review and agree annual rate adjustments, offers and budget guidance process in line with Group financial planning timelines.
* Act as the first point of contact for aviation programme risk and insurance coverage advice requests including supporting the contract risk management function in the aerospace sector on aviation insurance matters including risk pricing within the delegated authority.
* Analyse and review complex aviation insurance risks ensuring organizational compliance with business unit governance and regulatory compliance.
* Actively support the Insurance Risk Management team globally as required on broader projects and tasks including ad-hoc projects, whether or not these are Aviation Insurance projects.
Your profile:
* University degree and/or holding a professional qualification in insurance e.g. ACII, FCII, CPCU, CEBS, IEBA or other business management qualification.
* 10 to 15 years' experience of insurance within a global multinational insurance company, insurance broker or in-house risk function.
* Proven track record in cross border program delivery within a global multinational.
* Extensive background in account management, servicing, placement and negotiation of aviation insurance coverages and aviation insurance and international law.
* Knowledge of or experience in the logistics and/or global supply chain business
* Excellent written and spoken English (additional languages preferred).
* Exceptional data and analytics and project management skills with excellent time and workload management ability.
* Excellent written and oral communication and ability to articulate technical content to a non-technical audience.
* Experience of preparation and delivery of technical insurance training to non-insurance functions.
* Extensive knowledge of Microsoft 365 is required. Knowledge of power BI would be a benefit. As part of a continued investment in digitalization candidates who can offer knowledge of (or interest developing knowledge of) process automation and enhanced data analysis would be welcome.
