Clinical Scientist - Principal Radiotherapy Imaging
Job Summary: Applications are invited for a 1.0 WTE Band 8B post of Principal Clinical Scientist in the Radiotherapy Physic Section of the Dept. Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering, Leeds Cancer Centre, St. James University Hospital. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Clinical Scientist in Radiotherapy Imaging to play a leading role in advancing imaging innovation within radiotherapy services. This is a senior leadership position combining clinical service delivery, research & innovation (R&I), and operational management, supporting the strategic direction of the Radiotherapy Imaging section while ensuring excellence in day-to-day service provision. The successful candidate will work closely with the Radiotherapy Physics Research Lead and Lead for Radiotherapy Imaging and Clinical Innovation to translate cutting‑edge research into clinical practice and optimise patient treatment pathways.
Main duties of the job
Why you should join our Team: The Leeds Cancer Centre is a major centre treating over 7,800 new radiotherapy plans per annum. The centre is equipped with the latest technology, including 12 Elekta Linacs, 3 Philips CT‑Sims, 1 Philips MR‑Sim, VisionRT SGRT and the RayStation treatment planning system. The service also has a Flexitron HDR remote afterloading platform for advanced image‑guided brachytherapy, an I‑125 prostate brachytherapy service and supports intracranial SRS on a Gamma Knife ICON. The Radiotherapy Imaging section is undergoing an exciting transformation with a strengthened leadership structure designed to support growth, innovation, and service sustainability. Radiotherapy Physics Research Lead/RT Imaging Lead: Strategic leadership and R&I direction. Deputy Lead RT Imaging, R&D (this post): Operational management and clinical oversight. Lead for RT Imaging Clinical Innovation: Operational management and oversight of radiotherapy imaging R&I. Imaging Team: A multidisciplinary group delivering advanced radiotherapy imaging services. This structure ensures strong alignment between strategy, research, and clinical operations, enabling continued advancement of imaging‑led radiotherapy.

* Leadership & Service Management
o Provide operational leadership for the radiotherapy imaging service, including staffing, workflow, and service delivery
o Support strategic development of imaging services in collaboration with senior leadership
o Line‑manage clinical imaging staff and contribute to workforce development and succession planning

o Lead the development and implementation of new imaging techniques and workflows
o Evaluate and procure advanced imaging technologies
o Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes
* Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
o Work closely with clinicians, radiographers, physicists, and external partners
o Represent the imaging section at departmental and strategic meetings
o Support cross‑functional projects including imaging, planning, and software development
