Physical Security Analyst Location: Derby, Manchester, Warrington or Home Working Department: Safety & Regulatory Affairs – Security Why we need you We’re building a new generation of clean energy through our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme in the UK and Czechia — and we need you to make sure our designs are inherently secure. As our Physical Security Analyst, we need you to integrate physical security requirements into the SMR design, ensuring our approach aligns with regulatory expectations, the Design Basis Threat (DBT) and protective security principles. This isn’t a typical security role — it sits at the intersection of engineering, regulation, threat analysis and secure‑by‑design methodology. You’ll work with technical specialists across the organisation and represent RR SMR externally with clients, regulators and industry forums. ⭐ Critical to call out clearly: this role involves very high volumes of technical drafting. You’ll be producing complex, detailed documents at pace, and must be comfortable working in an evolving, ambiguous design space. What you’ll be doing We need you to: Integrate physical security requirements into the SMR design, ensuring alignment with DBT and regulatory expectations. Identify security needs and develop clear, evidence‑based claims, arguments and substantiation to support design decisions. Deliver physical protection system (PPS) inputs across engineering, safety, security and assurance disciplines. Conduct threat analysis, including adversarial pathway assessments and risk‑based judgement. Produce high‑quality, detailed technical documentation and regulatory submissions — under tight timescales. Engage directly with regulators, clients, and industry forums as a credible security representative for RR SMR. Ensure appropriate protection and handling of classified and sensitive information. Operate effectively despite ambiguity, evolving requirements and complex stakeholder landscapes. What you’ll bring We’re looking for people who meet at least 75% of the criteria below — if that’s you, we’d love to hear from you. Essential experience & skills Strong experience in physical security design or integration — ideally in CNI, government, defence, law enforcement or similar. Knowledge of access control, surveillance, perimeter security, hostile vehicle mitigation and other protective technologies. An ability to apply NPSA principles across Deter, Detect, Delay, Mitigate and Respond. Strong analytical capability: assessing threats, interpreting complex data sets and evaluating adversarial pathways. Ability to apply secure‑by‑design and graded‑approach principles to real‑world engineering scenarios. Outstanding drafting and technical writing skills — able to produce clear, high‑quality documents at pace (non‑negotiable). Confident communicator who can engage stakeholders at all levels, draw out key information, and work autonomously. Comfortable delivering work in an evolving, sometimes unclear design environment. Desirable Security qualifications: CPP, PSP, CSMP or CSyP. Experience working with regulators or regulated environments. Knowledge of nuclear security (advantageous, not essential). Czech or Swedish language skills (beneficial but not required). Security Clearance This role requires SC clearance, but you don’t need to have it on day one — it just needs to be achieved during probation. We’ll discuss eligibility early to ensure a smooth process. Location & ways of working You can be based at: Derby Manchester Warrington OR at Home, This isn't a fully remote role as it will expect travel to our sites/ offices/ suppliers on an adhoc basis (10-20% travel) We offer flexible and part‑time working options — talk to us about what you need.
