This is an exciting opportunity to join our Orthopaedic team on ward 14 ; We are looking to recruit a Band 5 Staff Nurse full time and part time for 12 month fixed term post

Main duties of the job

The ward offers many opportunities for growth and development for any staff nurse focussed on gaining new skills and leadership.

Training needs are fully supported on the ward, and you will always be encouraged to develop.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence-based guidelines.
2. Support and provide patient education and health promotion.
3. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.
4. Maintain accurate and complete records of all care activities, in a timely manner, adhering to local and professional standards for documentation.
5. Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped, and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.

Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team, and the organisation

Person specification

Qualfiication and Education

Essential criteria

6. Appropriate NMC registration
7. Diploma in Nursing
8. NMC recognised mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards 18 months commencement in post
9. Evidence of continuing education or development

Desirable criteria

10. Degree

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

11. Willing to expand clinical role e.g. IV additives, venepuncture and cannulation
12. Awareness of changes within Nursing practice
13. Knowledge of clinical governance and the relevance to practice
14. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
15. Demonstrates competency during internship

Desirable criteria

16. Knowledge of ethical issues
17. Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality e.g. surgery
18. Knowledge of leadership and management
19. Research and development
20. Experience of mentorship and ability to identify learning and development needs

Skill and Abilities
