An excellent opportunity has arisen to join Westmorland and Furness Council’s Technical Services team as a Senior Technical Services Officer, supporting the smooth and efficient operation of our Planning function.
The Senior Technical Services Officer is responsible for overseeing the validation of planning applications, consultation, document management, and the maintenance of key records. The post holder plays a critical role in enabling timely decision-making, maintaining transparency, and supporting high-quality service delivery.
The Senior Technical Services Officer is responsible for providing advanced technical support to the Planning Service. Reporting to the Technical Services team leader, you’ll ensure that applications are validated and processed accurately and efficiently whilst playing a key part in delivering excellent customer service. This role acts as a key support figure within the team, handling complex tasks, assisting junior colleagues, and ensuring high-quality service delivery, including support with finance and planning appeals. The Senior Technical Services Officer helps streamline workflows, maintain compliance with regulatory standards, and fosters a collaborative environment within Technical Services.

Who we are looking for…
We’re seeking a highly organised and proactive individual with experience in technical support and Planning validation.
You’ll bring:
* Strong technical and administrative skills, with experience handling complex planning applications, data and case management tasks.
* A good understanding of planning legislation and processes, or a willingness to develop this knowledge.
* Ability to interpret legislation, calculate planning application fees and administer financial aspects of the process.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and support to colleagues and applicants.
* Proficiency in using IT systems and databases to manage information accurately and efficiently.
* The ability to work independently, prioritise workloads, and maintain attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
