Leeds City College are seeking an English Literacy Teacher with Course Leader responsibilities to join our Adult, Community & ESOL (ACE) department. We are looking for an experienced teacher of entry level literacy (E1-E3) who may also have experience of Level 1, Level 2, and GCSE.
This is teaching adults only. The successful candidate will be required to work as least one evening session. Location is at College House (LS3 1AA) and our other centres are in LS7 1RG and LS14 6JD. This could be for a term 3 start or Sep 2026, depending on the applicant’s needs.
Our Adult provision was graded Outstanding by Ofsted in May 2022 and again in 2025. We teach Monday to Thursday from 09:30 to 21:00 and Fridays from 09:30 to 15:00.
What You Will Do
* Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans.
* Develop the essential knowledge and understanding to teach literacy learners.
* Create individual SMART learning targets linked to learner study programme/course.
* Monitor students to achieve their targets and develop their skills to enable progression.
* As a course leader, lead on the development of schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans, to oversee the quality and achievement of learners preparing for functional skills literacy qualifications. This might also include RARPAP support of teachers.
About You
* You should hold a L5 Teaching Qualification (or PGCE) and a degree or similar in English. Experienced teachers without Level 5/PGCE, if successful, will be supported to complete a L5 Teaching Qualification with the college with department financial support.
* English and Maths at Level 2 or above and a willingness to improve in one or both disciplines to level 3 or above.
* Have experience teaching literacy to adults in a UK college.
* Ability to plan and deliver quality teaching across identified modules.
