About the Role:
We seek an experienced Lead Technical Architect with expertise in cloud architectures to join our team. You will design, implement, and oversee advanced cloud infrastructure solutions for mission-critical systems, leveraging your deep knowledge of security architecture on cloud platforms to provide technical leadership in building scalable, secure, and resilient cloud-native systems based on AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, microservices, Java, and event-driven design.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cloud Architecture Design: Lead the design of cloud-based systems using AWS, microservices, event-driven architectures, and serverless computing to meet business needs.
2. Cloud Security: Develop and implement security architectures ensuring data protection, compliance, and industry best practices (e.g., AWS IAM, encryption, VPC, security monitoring).
3. Containerisation & Orchestration: Architect and oversee Kubernetes environments for high availability and scalability.
4. Event-Driven Systems: Lead the design of real-time data processing systems using Kafka and related messaging frameworks.
5. Microservices Architecture: Design and oversee microservices development, focusing on Java-based backend services.
6. Technical Leadership: Provide mentorship and guidance to architecture and development teams.
7. Security & Compliance: Ensure architectures meet industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and security policies.
8. CI/CD & Automation: Promote CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and automation.
9. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with DevOps, engineering, product management, and stakeholders to align strategies.
10. Performance & Cost Optimization: Drive efficiency and cost-saving strategies.
11. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate technical risks.
12. Documentation & Best Practices: Maintain architectural standards and documentation.
The Fit:
Ideal candidates will have experience in designing and implementing large-scale, distributed cloud systems with a focus on AWS, including:
* Extensive cloud security architecture knowledge (IAM, network security, encryption)
* Deep expertise with Docker and Kubernetes
* Experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka
* Strong Java backend development background
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
* Excellent communication and leadership skills
* Knowledge of monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack) and cloud cost management
* Familiarity with serverless architectures and AWS Lambda
* Preferred AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Security – Specialty)
* Understanding of TOGAF framework
Security Clearance:
Due to industry requirements, the candidate must be a British citizen, have lived in the UK for the last 5 years, and be able to obtain high-level security clearance.
