Job Description:

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to over 1.15 million residents, expanding to 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellow in Haematology/Oncology at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.

This is a fixed-term position for 12 months, with a midterm review after 6 months.

The Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow, opened in June 2015, is Europe's largest hospital campus, co-located with the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. It offers comprehensive specialist services to the West of Scotland and beyond, serving as a national referral centre for many services.

The Haematology/Oncology Department, within its 26-bed Schiehallion Unit, cares for children and adolescents with leukemia, tumours, bleeding disorders, and other haematological conditions. It acts as a national tertiary referral centre.

Glasgow hosts one of nine UK-based ITCC and ECMC units, delivering phase I/II trials for children in Scotland and the North East of England. The clinical trials service is integrated within the Children and Young Adult Cancer Unit, which has a broad portfolio of early-phase clinical trials.

The role involves managing daycare and review of children in clinical trials, working closely with the multidisciplinary team on early clinical studies of novel agents. The fellow will participate in patient care during trials and may develop interests in specific areas such as Leukaemia, Lymphomas, Neuroblastoma, Neuro-oncology, Sarcoma, and other tumours.

This position is suitable for trainee paediatric oncologists or haematologists seeking experience in paediatric oncology drug development. It offers an excellent opportunity to acquire new skills for a career in clinical or scientific research.

The fellow will, under supervision, assess, investigate, and treat patients, and participate in clinical research activities.

Applicants should have prior experience in paediatric haematology and oncology and be fully registered with the GMC.
