Overview
Specialist Clinical Psychologist in Health role at Islet Systems. This post provides embedded psychological care within the Macleod Diabetes and Endocrinology Service (MDEC), Royal Devon University Hospital in Exeter. You will work with diabetes, endocrinology and medical obesity patients. There will be potential to work with MDTs, provide training, support and supervision to staff as well as maintaining a clinical caseload. Both elements of the post will have a service development role to continue developing psychological care pathways with the local Primary Care Talking Therapies team. This role requires face to face presence in the teams for the majority of the time. Opportunities also exist with local clinical training courses for research and clinical placements within the service.

* The team psychologist has access to protected administrative desk space alongside a separate allocated therapy room in the building. The role encompasses both clinical care (direct patient contact) alongside systemic approaches including a focus on psychological informed care and environments.
* Attendance at medical obesity MDT meetings every other Wednesday and diabetes MDT on Thursdays is essential.
* There is flexibility around the types of therapeutic approaches offered in the service, with training available; approaches include 3rd wave CBT, trauma-focused approaches and longer-term attachment-informed interventions.
Job Responsibilities
* The principal purpose of the job is to improve the psychological health & wellbeing of people served by Royal Devon University Hospital (Exeter) services for obesity and endocrine disorders.
* Provide clinical leadership, co-ordination and supervision for staff, trainees and volunteers attached to the psychology service.
* Take a leadership role in the EMOS and endocrinology services for the Clinical Health & Neuropsychology Services.
* Carry a specialist caseload of clients and provide advice and consultancy to patients and professionals.
* Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the governance of psychological practice within the Clinical Health & Neuropsychology Services.
* Receive regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policy and Professional Practice Guidelines (BPS or designated body).
* Contribute to the management of the Psychology and Psychological Therapies directorate.

Essential knowledge and skills
* Broad knowledge of clinical health psychology services; NHS services where clinical health psychology is applied
* Extensive knowledge of clinical psychology practice
* Knowledge of NHS policy context and leadership in this setting
* Excellent verbal, nonverbal and written communication
* Strong leadership, resilience and ability to handle ambiguity
* Conflict management, negotiation and consensus-building in complex settings
* Ability to integrate complex data, make evaluations and long-term decisions
* Organisation and time management
* Advanced psychological assessment and formulation skills including risk assessment
Experience
Essential
* Experience in psychology services across a range of medical settings
* Experience in teaching, training and/or supervision
* Experience in leadership roles within NHS psychology services and in developing, implementing and evaluating strategies in multidisciplinary contexts
* Experience or training in diversity awareness and social inequality
Qualifications
Essential
* Qualified Clinical/Counselling Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent), eligible for Chartered Clinical Psychologist Status
* Further training in health psychology practice
* Further training in at least one psychological therapy
