Chief Cardiac Physiologist (Echo)

An exciting career opportunity is available for a Chief Cardiac Physiologist in Echo to join our Clinical Measurements Department at James Paget University Hospital. The role also includes providing Echo service within newly built Community Diagnostic Centres.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking and motivated professional. The candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be able to work both independently and as part of a team, and have advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy.
Main duties of the job
* Assess, plan and implement non‑invasive cardiac diagnostics without direct supervision, primarily in Echo, in line with BSE standards.
* Support management responsibilities of the Multi‑Disciplinary Team within the Clinical Measurements Department, providing professional support and specialist cardiac physiologist advice as necessary.
* Take charge of the Clinical Measurement Department as required.
* Maintain health and safety of patients and colleagues at all times by complying with Trust policies.
* Be an active member of the Multi‑Disciplinary Team, leading/liaising/communicating as necessary and supporting junior staff.
* Act in a manner that safeguards the public trust and confidence and protects patient interests.
Job responsibilities
Staff Management
* Provide a supporting role in the management of junior staff within the department as required.
* Promote/assist in achieving high morale within the department based on fair and clear staff relationships.
Technical / Clinical Procedures
* Independently practice with a high level of skill and autonomy to BSE standards in Adult Echocardiography, providing a full and comprehensive report.
* Participate in a range of advanced Echo procedures: Bubble Studies, Dobutamine Stress Echo, Exercise Stress Echo, ACHD Echo, TOE.
* Undertake a range of other cardiac procedures as an independent practitioner: Electrocardiography, Ambulatory monitoring (24/48/72 hour cardiac monitoring, blood pressure monitoring and event recording).
Professional Issues
* Maintain a safe clinical environment and support the Manual Handling & Health and Safety Lead for the department.
* Be accountable for own clinical practice and address others’ clinical practice as required.
* Present a positive image of the department and Trust at all times.
* Maintain BSE accreditation and support others approaching accreditation.
* Take a role in the development of practice and performance monitoring for technical procedures.
* Maintain registration with the RCCP or the AHCS.
Education, Training and Development
* Act as an effective role model at all times.
* Partake in an ECG training programme for students and other professionals as required.
* Proactively inform colleagues of current research and updates.
* Provide training to other healthcare professionals as needed.
* Undertake further training in Cardiac investigations and reporting.
* Commit to personal development by study and relevant courses.
* Undertake further Echo training in 3D Echo and other emerging technologies.
Quality management/assurance
* Ensure optimal quality of clinical practice within the department.
* Support the department's QA programme.
* Lead standard setting, monitoring and evaluation, taking corrective action when necessary.
Complaints/Untoward Incident
* Assist Senior Chief Cardiac Physiologist in investigating complaints and incidents, ensuring appropriate action.
* Promote good practice at all times.
* Ensure staff wear name badges and adhere to the Trust Uniform policy.
Communication
* Ensure necessary information is communicated to Senior Chief Cardiac Physiologist and within the team as appropriate.
* Support and enhance communication between multidisciplinary team members.
* Liaise with other departments/agencies within and outside the Trust to ensure optimum service delivery.
Resource Management
* Assist Senior Chief Cardiac Physiologist in effectively utilizing resources and identifying savings opportunities.
* Assist in managing stock and equipment levels.
* Participate in department audits as required.

Person Specification
Qualification
* BSc Healthcare Science (or equivalent)
* BSE accreditation (or equivalent)
Skills
* Ability to perform and report an Echo independently within 45 minutes.
* Ability to perform and report complex Echos (e.g., GUCH echos) independently.
Experience
* Prior clinical practice and experience as a Cardiac Physiologist at Band 6 or above.
