ICaSH Cambridgeshire, Huntingdon - Healthcare Assistant 24hrs per week (0.64wte)
An enthusiastic, committed and experienced Healthcare Assistant is required to provide high quality services to the community using the Integrated Contraception and Sexual Health (iCaSH) services across Cambridgeshire. The role is based at our Huntingdon site.
Responsibilities
* Welcome patients, collect relevant personal and clinical details and treat all information as confidential.
* Develop a warm and welcoming rapport with people who use our services, applying front‑of‑house experience.
* Provide information on contraception, risk‑reduction, sexually transmitted infections and HIV, and demonstrate condom use.
* Act as a chaperone and assist nurses or doctors with intimate examinations, procedures and sexual health screening.
* Perform a phlebotomy service for patients attending the services.
* Interpret, document and communicate microscopy slide results as directed by clinicians.
* Register and issue condoms and C‑cards to patients.
* Administer prescribed vaccines in line with service guidelines and SOPs.
* Provide a routine sexual health screen for asymptomatic patients following training and sign‑off.
* Support the multidisciplinary team by maintaining correct storage of patient records and liaising with other services.
* Assist with outreach and health promotion events when requested.
* Engage in annual appraisal, one‑to‑one meetings and clinical supervision throughout the year.
* Support the teaching and supervision of students from a variety of disciplines.
* Maintain stock levels of drugs and clinical supplies, identify and report discrepancies, and assist with ordering as required.
* Perform general administrative duties, including call taking, reception cover, data collection and booking.
* Attend and complete mandatory training in accordance with EEC policy and undertake any training identified by the Clinic Manager.
* Ensure attendance at all relevant meetings, verify provision of accurate record keeping, and observe infection prevention and control policies.
* Assist with local and national audits and record all laboratory specimen details accurately before dispatching to the laboratory.
* Support signposting of clients to appropriate services and ensure safe‑keeping of patients’ property.
Qualifications and Competencies
* Front‑of‑house experience with demonstrable ability to build rapport.
* Hold a Care Certificate qualification.
* Training in or willingness to undertake phlebotomy, microscopy and chaperone duties.
* Knowledge of confidentiality, sensitivity and hygiene practices in contraception, sexual health and HIV services.
* Availability to work 8:30 am – 6 pm, Monday to Thursday, on a rota.
* Basic computer skills for data collection, booking and reception functions.
* Non‑judgemental attitude towards all client groups irrespective of age, ethnicity or religion.
* Commitment to personal professional development and participation in annual appraisals.
