Rotational Occupational Therapist

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our Occupational Therapy Rotation.
The post holder will work alongside a multi‑disciplinary team to support the assessment and treatment of patients across a range of clinical areas: Medicine, Respiratory, Trauma Orthopaedics, Major Trauma, Stroke and Neurology, Oncology, No Criteria to Reside Unit.
You will have direct input into the assessment, treatment and reablement of patients who present within acute care, delivering evidence‑based interventions to facilitate recovery, promote well‑being and optimise independent functioning as far as reasonably possible.
Individuals should be adaptable, enjoy teamwork and be capable of building collaborative networks with other agencies to address immediate needs.
Current or pending HCPC registration is required. Applicants must hold (or be awaiting) a Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be self‑motivated, able to assess patients effectively and timely in a rapid‑paced environment. Confidence will be required in enabling patients in positive risk‑taking, personalised care, assessment of capacity, manual handling, functional assessments and knowledge of the SAFER principles.
Rotations across clinical areas occur approximately every 6 months to develop and consolidate skills. Regular support and supervision are provided, including a well‑established AHP preceptorship programme.
Job responsibilities
Support the assessment, treatment and reablement of patients in acute care across the rotation’s clinical areas.
Deliver evidence‑based interventions to facilitate recovery and promote independent functioning.
Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and partner with other agencies to identify and address patient needs.
Participate in rotations and maintain professional development through supervision and preceptorship.
Person specification
Education / Qualifications
* Occupational Therapy Degree or Diploma (or due to graduate soon)
* HCPC registration – or registration applied for
* Accredited wheelchair prescriber (if applicable)
* Completion of an accredited student educator course from a UK institution
* Valid driving licence or ability to transport independently in the community
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience applying occupational therapy knowledge and skills in clinical settings (undergraduate placements or post‑graduate employment)
* Knowledge of key concepts of occupational therapy models of practice
* Ability to demonstrate and discuss the occupational therapy process in UK-based clinical settings
* Ability to analyse, select and apply appropriate assessment and treatments using a range of modalities
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Experience in reflective practice and personal development
* Contribution to the development of students and staff
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
* Desire and capability to develop in line with role competencies
* Can work on own initiative and as part of a team
* Demonstrates understanding of confidentiality
* Can facilitate the learning of others
