This is an opportunity for either an experienced barristers’ clerk or someone with significant administrative experience in the legal sector to join our criminal clerking team in Manchester to continue a long-term career as a barristers’ clerk. We have a 5-step career progression framework for our clerks and are open to recruiting a person with strong potential at level 1 (Entry), 2 (Skilled) or 3 (Expert).
Working with teams across our four sites, you will play a vital role in delivering a smooth and comprehensive clerking service to our members, including: diary management (ensuring the fair allocation of work), recording of briefs and instructions, checking court & tribunal listings, negotiating fees and dealing with email and telephone bookings and enquiries from clients. There will be opportunities to get involved with networking, practice and business development as you progress.
While experience of clerking criminal and regulatory casework will be an advantage, we welcome applications from all experienced barristers’ clerks as training in this practice area will be given. We are also interested to hear from applicants with strong administrative experience in other parts of the legal sector interested in transferring their skills to a career as a barristers’ clerk. Essentially, you’ll need to be able to demonstrate strong written and spoken communication skills, high attention to detail, organisational skills, the ability to provide excellent client care and a friendly, approachable and flexible manner in working together with colleagues and members. Experience in the use of diary management software, such as MLC or LEX would be a distinct advantage.
In return we offer a friendly and sociable team environment, a competitive salary and benefits package and, with over 40 clerking roles across our four sites, excellent opportunities for peer support and career development.
Closing Date: we encourage swift applications and will close when we have sufficient applications shortlisted for interview.
We positively encourage applications from all sections of the community and operate an equal opportunities approach. We particularly encourage applications from candidates from a minority ethnic background, who are currently under-represented amongst our staff
