Lightricity is seeking an Optoelectronic Device (Solar Cell) Engineer to advance our high-efficiency photovoltaic technology platforms. The role encompasses the development, fabrication and characterisation of high-efficiency devices for indoor & outdoor IoT environments and for aerospace applications. This role involves hands-on device processing, optimising device performance and characterisation in our laboratories. The successful candidate should enjoy hands-on activities and have a relevant science or engineering degree.
Responsibilities:
* Design and simulation of solar cell structures to achieve world-class efficiencies for specific applications
* Develop and refine semiconductor microfabrication processes in a cleanroom environment
* Perform comprehensive optoelectronic characterisation of optoelectronic devices / solar cells
* Plan and execute reliability and environmental testing, ensuring devices meet applicable requirements
* Contribute to the company’s R&D projects
* Write technical documentation, specifications and test reports
Required skills/experience:
* Degree in physics, materials science, electrical engineering or a related discipline (MSc or PhD desirable)
* Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics, specifically solar cells or optoelectronic devices
* Hands-on experience with semiconductor microfabrication techniques in a cleanroom environment, including photolithography, wet/dry etching, dielectric and metal deposition
* Experience with device characterisation (e.g. material and structural analysis, optoelectronic characterisation)
* Ability to work under own initiative and manage workload to meet tight project deadlines
* Eligible to work in the UK
Desirable skills/experience:
* Experience with advanced optoelectronic characterisation (solar simulators, quantum efficiency measurements)
* Experience with processing and analysis of large experimental datasets (e.g. in Python)
* Familiarity with TCAD semiconductor modelling or simulation software
* Knowledge of material epitaxy
* Familiarity with space industry standards or Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) principles
