Job: Project Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Home Based/ UK Wide. Offices are based in Windsor/Stockport. Candidates must be prepared to travel UK–wide on occasion as site surveys and installation quality checks will be expected.
While the role offers flexibility regarding location and home working, it involves UK site visits. The team office is in Stockport, and attendance for meetings once or twice a month is expected.
Duration: 6+ months
Pay: Negotiable – Inside IR35, paid via umbrella company
Overview
Our client builds, operates, and maintains clean energy assets to help customers decarbonise. This includes sourcing green energy, providing project expertise, financing options, and operational capabilities to deliver energy efficiency and cost savings, balancing environmental and economic goals. In this role, you will contribute to sustainable, zero-carbon, innovative, and high–quality design solutions for mechanical building services systems. Confidence in client interactions and knowledge of mechanical building services installations are essential.
The Role
An exciting opportunity for a self–motivated electrical/EC&I engineer with experience in project delivery and a desire to grow within the team. If you are a Design Engineer in building services, renewables, or related fields, or have an electrical installation background, you could be a valuable addition to our team.
This role involves delivering energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects for public and private sector clients, including the NHS, hotels, leisure centres, and industrial clients. Working alongside a Lead Engineer, you will prepare electrical and control engineering deliverables throughout the project lifecycle—from site surveys and initial concepts to detailed design, commissioning, and handover.
Key responsibilities include:
* Designing distributed generation and renewable energy schemes
* Detailed design of LV distribution systems
* Specifying HV installation works
* Ensuring compliance with GB Distribution Code (G99, G100, etc.)
* Performing electrical calculations: load estimation, equipment sizing, cable & protection device selection
* Selecting & specifying electrical equipment for integration with CHP, heat pumps, and district heating systems
* Preparing construction-ready designs: single line diagrams, control panel drawings, cable diagrams, schedules, materials lists, and risk assessments
* Defining scope of work and interfaces for subcontractors
* Proficiency with AutoCAD LT and Amtech (or similar)
* Knowledge of legislation, standards, safe working practices, and environmental best practices
* Understanding control systems for power management and building controls (PLCs, SCADA, BMS, etc.)
* Working according to procedures (Client and CBS)
* Producing accurate drawings efficiently with minimal supervision
* Adapting to a dynamic department with high target expectations
* Collaborating effectively with team members, sharing knowledge, and supporting skill development
* Excellent presentation and communication skills
* Engaging with procurement or construction teams when required
* Being well-organized and prioritizing tasks aligned with CBS interests
Minimum requirements:
* CIBSE / IET accredited honours degree in Electrical Engineering or HNC in a relevant discipline, with ongoing pursuit of higher education and IEng or CEng status
* Passion for innovative design
* Experience in building services design, site surveys, inspections, snagging, and client meetings
* Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and energy technologies, with some post-education experience
* Ability to write clear technical documentation
* Attention to detail throughout all design stages
* Strong cross-functional communication skills across technical and commercial stakeholders
* Compliance with CDM 2015 regulations and contribution to safety reviews and risk assessments
* Experience with EPLAN is advantageous
* Knowledge of earthing, lightning protection, fire detection, machinery safety, or metering is beneficial
