QI Fellow Renal Medicine
We are delighted to announce a Quality Improvement fellow post at the Oxford Kidney Unit (OKU) on a 12-month full‑time fixed‑term contract funded by the Oxford Kidney Unit Trust Fund (OKUTF). There will be an opportunity to extend this for up to 24 months subject to satisfactory progression. Applicants wishing to apply for less than full‑time contract arrangements will be considered. The start date will be dependent on successful negotiations with their current employer, but an anticipated date would be March 2026.
Key Responsibilities
* Spend 4.5 days WTE leading quality improvement projects within the renal department to improve patient safety and quality of care.
* Spend 0.5 days WTE working within the Care Quality Improvement Department of the Royal College of Physicians, London.
* Work with the Royal College of Physicians to support the wider development of improvement activities and deliver projects that support the national programme through RCP.
* Contribute to renal on‑call cover as part of the resident hospital at‑night team in the Churchill Hospital (1:10 provision, crash bleep responsibility, renal advice across the region).
* Mentor and support junior doctors and allied health care professionals with audit and QI projects within the department.
* Present posters and/or oral presentations at conferences and events, and write up QI projects for peer‑reviewed publication.
* Participate in QI and leadership training, mentorship and sessions with Dr Udaya Udayaraj (Consultant nephrologist, OKU) and Dr Aklak Choudhury (Clinical Director for Improvement programmes, RCP).
Qualifications & Experience
* Higher specialty trainee (ST) in renal medicine with a UK training number, or post‑CCT trainee seeking a special interest in quality improvement.
* Placement undertaken in time out of programme (OOP).
* Experience or interest in quality improvement and patient safety preferred.
* Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills.
Employment
Post is subject to the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust employment contract and is funded through the OKUTF.
