Job Description:
Job summary
This is a replacement post which has become vacant as the previous Consultant Psychiatrist has retired.
The post is a 10 PA post that is split between inpatient rehabilitation units across North and South Durham localities. The rehabilitation services serving the North & South Durham localities operate primarily from the in-patient units at Primrose Lodge (Chester-le-Street, 14 beds) and Willow Ward, West Park Hospital (Darlington, 15 beds).
The main acute in-patient beds for North Durham are at Lanchester Road Hospital, Durham, and for South Durham at West Park Hospital, Darlington. There are two wards admitting patients with acute mental health problems at Lanchester Road Hospital and three at West Park Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The principal duties are to provide an active, recovery-focused rehabilitation service to patients within North and South Durham's Adult Mental Health Directorate. The focus is primarily inpatient, with minimal community work.
Severe and enduring mental illness can profoundly affect lives. An energetic rehabilitation service is essential for a recovery-focused modern adult mental health service. The post holder will lead this service.
Primrose Lodge will be the main focus. Willow Ward offers high-dependency support for more challenging, longer-lasting cases.
The postholder will work closely with colleagues in Adult Mental Health, offering a flexible, recovery-oriented service. Strong multidisciplinary skills and clinical leadership are required.
The postholder will also develop links with supported living schemes, employment services, and other specialist providers, engaging with commissioners.
