We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Sonographer to join our Non-Obstetric Ultrasound Imaging team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The posts are based at Hammersmith Hospital and St Mary's Hospital, with no requirement to rotate between sites

As a Senior Sonographer (Band 7), you will join the Imaging Department within the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Operating as an independent practitioner, you will perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound scans, formulate comprehensive clinical reports, and communicate critical results directly to clinicians.
In this pivotal role, you will provide specialist advice, maintain exceptional standards of patient care, and take responsibility for the training and supervision of junior staff and students. You will also support the Modality Lead by assisting with clinical audits, research, and governance programmes, ensuring the ultrasound service remains efficient and innovative.

Main duties of the job
1. Perform and report on a wide range of general and complex ultrasound examinations autonomously, maintaining a high diagnostic standard and professional accountability.
2. Act as a source of expertise for other clinicians, providing advice on future patient management, including further imaging and referrals.
3. Maintain exceptional standards of patient welfare and privacy, using tact and diplomacy to communicate distressing or unwelcome news.
4. Responsible for the training and mentoring of Radiology registrars, student sonographers, and other staff members at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
5. Take responsibility for the assigned area and deputise for the Modality Lead Sonographer when required, ensuring equipment is maintained and troubleshooting faults.
6. Clinically justify ultrasound requests and prioritise workloads based on clinical urgency and unpredictable patient demands.
7. Actively assist with departmental audits, research projects, and clinical governance programmes to ensure the service meets Trust and statutory regulations.
8. Maintain an up-to-date CPD portfolio and participate in annual IPR (Individual Performance Review) and PDP (Personal Development Plan) objectives.

Essential criteria
9. BSc Radiography or Diploma of the College of Radiographers (DCR).
10. Health Professions Council Registration if applicable to candidate or registration with other professional regulatory body
11. PgDip Medical Ultrasound
12. Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
13. Evidence of post graduate study
14. Up to date knowledge of ultrasound imaging techniques
Experience

15. Experience of training staff and students
