Overview
My Client is a major regional contractor, established for over 30 years. They are looking to bolster the workforce and employ a Design Manager for the North East office.
Responsibilities
* Modelling steel structures within TEKLA, including 3D modelling, approval drawings for submission to client, component and fabrication drawings.
* Providing fabrication drawings for other elements of architectural metalwork including: handrails, balustrades, balconies, gates, railings, canopies, staircases.
* Bolt connection, design & detailing.
* Managing the design process, from receipt of drawings to producing full fabrication drawings.
* Ensuring that all models and drawings are delivered to the project fabrication programme.
* Produce and manage the RFI schedule and process, liaising directly with the design team, engineers and architects.
* Value engineering designs provided by the project's design team as appropriate.
* Producing part lists & take-offs to assist with procurement of steelwork.
* Communicating with the Technical Manager who will advise on current projects to be delivered and workload.
* Performing site checks to manage quality of delivered projects.
* Production of NCRs and enforcement of the companys QEMS.
* Assisting structures in the management of the EN1090 certifications as well as any further accreditations the business attains.
* Assisting the rest of the Technical Department in the production of design information, across multiple disciplines.
* Communicating with the Structures Department Manager.
Core competencies
* Experience in building structures modelling within the Tekla software environment.
* Knowledge of current drawing practice and standards related to modelling buildings, connections and fabrication drawings.
* Have a good knowledge and understanding of steelwork design, connections and erection methodology.
* The ability to communicate with Client Engineers and Architects directly, ensuring all queries are dealt with swiftly.
* Good time and project management skills.
* Working to tight programmes.

Contribution to the business
You will contribute to the overall running and continuous improvement of the business, along with development of the Technical and Structures Department, by ensuring that the highest professional standards are maintained to continually improve the service given to Clients. This includes: identifying problems and offering solutions; ensuring the Company’s QEMS procedures are followed and offering suggestions as to their development and improvement; encouraging and developing teamwork both within your team and between teams, internally and externally; and having an excellent understanding of and being compliant with the QEMS.
