Band and Salary
* Band 6: £41,608 - £50,702
* Developmental opportunity for a Band 5: £30,229 - £37,664 pro rata
* Distant Island Allowance: £1,406
Employment Details
Permanent
36 hours per week (as of 1/4/2026, reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be adjusted on a pro‑rata basis.)
36 hrs per week, 7 days on average, one weekend a month.
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Occupational Therapist to join our Occupational Therapy team to play a fundamental part in supporting people to regain confidence and independence in the things that matter to them.
You will be part of the well‑established Short-Term Assessment and Reablement Team (START) which currently operates in Stornoway and surrounding areas. The START team comprises Reablement Workers, Care and Support Supervisors, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapy. Our START OTs also work in the hospital covering the general medical and surgical case load.
You would remain at a Band 5 while over an 18-24 month period, developing your skills and working towards fulfilling the duties of this Band 6 position (per Annex 20 of NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook Scotland).
Responsibilities
* Support people to regain confidence and independence.
* Provide Occupational Therapy services within the Short-Term Assessment and Reablement Team.
* Work in hospital covering general medical and surgical case load.
* Collaborate with Reablement Workers, Care and Support Supervisors, and Physiotherapy staff.
* Contribute to service development and modernisation.
Qualifications and Requirements
* HCPC registered Occupational Therapist (or demonstrating that you have initiated the HCPC application process).
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for which allowances will be payable.
Support
Support, supervision and CPD are integral to this job.
