South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is offering an exciting development opportunity for an experienced SCAS leader to step into the role of Assistant Director of ICC – Resource and Deployment. This senior position provides strategic leadership across the Integrated Contact Centre, ensuring the effective planning, coordination and deployment of staff, vehicles, volunteers and operational resources to meet patient need safely and efficiently.

The post holder will lead the development of resource deployment strategies that are evidence‑based, sustainable and aligned with Trust priorities, national standards and regulatory requirements. Working in close collaboration with colleagues across clinical, digital, operational and planning functions, you will support the delivery of high‑quality, responsive services and ensure preparedness for fluctuations in demand and periods of operational pressure.

This role requires an individual with significant operational leadership experience, strong analytical capability and the ability to influence across organisational boundaries. You will foster a high‑performance culture, provide visible leadership to multiple teams and ensure the delivery of safe, patient‑centered services. The post holder will also play a key role in emergency planning, strategic service development and external partnership work across the wider urgent and emergency care system.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide senior leadership and operational oversight for the Trust’s resource deployment functions, ensuring that all staff and assets are coordinated to deliver timely, clinically appropriate and efficient responses to patients. You will oversee teams across multiple sites, ensuring performance targets, quality standards and key workforce indicators are consistently achieved.

You will be responsible for ensuring robust governance within your area, maintaining compliance with Trust policies, national standards and regulatory frameworks. The role includes leading emergency planning and major incident response arrangements, contributing to business continuity plans and acting as Gold Commander when required.

A key element of this role involves using data insights, digital tools and predictive modelling to inform deployment decisions and drive ongoing improvements in efficiency, resilience and service quality. You will work closely with digital, clinical and operational teams to enhance systems, support innovation and embed best practice.

Corporate Induction

All new starters need to attend our *Corporate Induction in person, this is held over one and half days from our educational centres based in: Newbury (Berkshire), Bicester (Oxfordshire) or Whiteley (Hampshire). More specific details will be sent to you once your start date has been confirmed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

· Lead on emergency planning and major incident response protocols.

· Accountable for the development of annual operational improvement plans within their area of responsibility that support the delivery of the Trust’s strategic objectives.

Provide oversight of the services within their area of responsibility, ensuring that there are effective systems in place for the operational management of services which supports devolution, control and accountability to the level of service delivery.

· Provide senior leadership to deployment teams across multiple sites, ensuring consistent performance and service quality.

· Oversee delivery of KPI and workforce indicators appropriate to the function.

· Drive improvements in service delivery to ensure all targets are met.

· Ensure robust rota management, training, and staff wellbeing initiatives are in place.

· Oversee delivery of recruitment plans.

Qualifications


Essential criteria

* Educated to MSc/MA level in a clinical, leadership or business-related discipline or equivalent experience working at commensurate band / level
* Evidence of on-going professional development.
* Quality Improvement training and experience e.g. LEAN Six Sigma, IHI or QSIR


Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Proven track record in resource planning, operational leadership, and service transformation.
* Extensive experience in a senior clinical or operational leadership role.
* Proven track record of strategic service development and transformation.


Skills

* Strong leadership and communication skills.
* Analytical and decision-making capabilities.
* Ability to work collaboratively across organisational boundaries.
* Ability to manage professional networks and partnerships.
