PhD Opportunity in Sustainable Formulation Design via Multiscale Modelling
Fully Funded PhD Opportunity: Sustainable Formulation Design via Multiscale Modelling
Are you passionate about sustainability, molecular simulation, and green innovation? Join our team at Lancaster University to develop cutting-edge multiscale models for designing next-generation sustainable surfactants and polymers!
About the Project:
* Develop multiscale molecular dynamics (MD) frameworks to predict formulation properties and interactions with biomimetic surfaces (e.g., skin, hair).
* Collaborate with Henkel, a global leader in consumer goods, to bridge industry and academia.
* Access state-of-the-art tools (Martini 3, SPICA, SEAMM, MoSDeF) and contribute to open-science workflows.
* Fully funded for 3.5 years (UK) / 3 years (international)—covers fees + tax-free stipend (£20,780 in 2025/26).
* Start date: January 2026.
* Background in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline.
* Interest in molecular simulations, soft matter, or computational methods.
* Programming experience (Python) and familiarity with MD software (GROMACS, LAMMPS, OpenMM) are advantageous but not essential.
* Motivated to tackle sustainability challenges in formulation science.
* Work at the interface of academia and industry with Henkel’s R&D expert support.
* Join a dynamic team in Lancaster’s School of Engineering—a hub for sustainable tech.
* Publish high-impact research and help develop greener consumer products.
