Responsibilities
* Directly working with inventors at our research centres and group companies to protect inventions
* Participating in growing our patent offering for standardization projects, including drafting, prosecution, filing strategies and claim charting
* Coordinating the worldwide prosecution of inventions originating in Europe, such as those directed to digital standards (video coding HEVC/VVC, video streaming MPEG‑DASH, wireless communications 5G/6G and Wi‑Fi 802.11, Wireless Power Transfer, connected vehicles V2X/V2V)
* Filing and prosecuting patent applications in UK and Europe protecting inventions originating from CINC R&D centres in Japan; may include filing appeals at the EPO
* Working with patent engineers at CINC's IP HQ in Japan to coordinate prosecution strategies in the UK and Europe
* Opportunities to support our group companies (Milestone, NT‑ware, IRIS)
* Handling everything from invention harvesting, patent drafting and prosecution, freedom to operate, licensing, enforcement, negotiations and disputes with third parties
Qualifications
* Minimum of a university degree in a technical subject
* Fully qualified or finals Standard European and UK patent attorney
* Relevant working experience as a patent engineer or attorney (private practice / in‑house)
* Experience or interest in digital standards and/or standard essential patents work
* Knowledge of AI technologies and patent law (advantage but not essential)
* Experience of foreign (non‑UK/EP) patent prosecution preferred (US, China, Japan, etc.)
