Overview Of The Judicial Office
The Judicial Office (JO) reports to, and is accountable to, the Lady Chief Justice (LCJ). It was established in 2006 to support the judiciary in upholding the rule of law and delivering justice efficiently and impartially, following the Constitutional Reform Act 2005. The JO supports the Senior President of Tribunals, including responsibilities in Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is an Arm’s Length Body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice, working closely with HM Courts & Tribunals Service and other government bodies. The Judicial Office has recently expanded its remit and responsibilities.
Overview Of The Team
The Business Support Team provides support across the Judicial Office, including financial management, accommodation, safety, staff engagement, and risk management. The team manages a complex budget, led by a qualified finance professional.
Hybrid Working Requirement
This position is eligible for hybrid working with at least 60% of time spent at the base location, subject to business needs.
Summary Of The Role
The main responsibility is managing the Paybill budget, which accounts for nearly 50% of the Judicial Office funding. This involves working closely with the People Services Team and directorates to ensure accurate data for pay forecasts, preparing monthly accounts, variance analysis, forecasting, and reporting. The role also includes supporting counter-fraud initiatives and line management of one EO.
Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
* Manage the Judicial Office's Paybill, ensuring data accuracy for salaries, grades, and staff costs.
* Oversee budget management and forecasting accuracy in Hyperion.
* Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and variances.
* Collaborate with recruitment and other teams for accurate costings.
* Support ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
* Ensure compliance with financial controls and processes.
* Support counter-fraud activities and team management.
Essential Knowledge, Experience and Skills
* Experience in government finance, including month-end reporting and finance systems.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
* Excellent organizational and planning skills.
