We are seeking two highly skilled and experienced Business Managers at Director level to join our Retail Banking, BUK team. These roles will support an ExCo member/Co-Head of Retail Banking, focusing on either Current Account, Payments, Lending (CAPL), or Mortgages, Savings, Insurance (MSI). These Business Managers will play a critical role in driving business performance, managing strategic priorities, and ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operations across the function. They will also provide insight, coordination, and oversight to align business activities with strategic goals.


Key Criteria

* Provide operating leverage to the Exco member by leading or co-ordinating the delivery of business critical and confidential actions.
* Develop effective relationships with the Exco leadership teams and other key stakeholders both internally and externally.
* Encourage a deep understanding of Retail Banking customer and client needs, products, and propositions. Work with the wider team to measure progress and ensure outcomes align with Barclays UK strategy.
* Lead the organisation and agenda for leadership meetings, offsites, and other events.
* Build and oversee a robust communication strategy with internal and external stakeholders.
* Define and drive colleague-related initiatives in conjunction with the Exco member and HR.
* Ensure financial disciplines are fully implemented to support process improvements, operational and strategic planning, including management of FTE cost shape and glidepath.
* Understand the business area and its performance in depth, acting as a "go-to" person for relevant queries. Represent the Barclays UK Retail Banking team in projects impacting customers or clients, influencing project focus and outcomes.
* Lead, develop, and execute thematic change strategies from vision to implementation.
* Support leadership in complex problem solving, providing oversight and conducting routine analysis of strategic delivery successes.
* Engage cross-functionally with other leaders to ensure alignment, leveraging core capabilities across the business.
* Lead governance activities, develop a robust SMR framework, and ensure controls and governance are in place for a compliant organization.


Stakeholder Management and Leadership

* Influence key stakeholders to support Retail Banking strategy and support long-term vision execution.
* Build relationships with senior stakeholders at the executive level.
* Provide management and mentorship to junior colleagues.
* Manage partnership relationships across various functions to negotiate alignment.
* Foster a culture of trust and collaboration, developing effective relationships and partnerships.
* Build collaborative relationships with senior leaders across Barclays UK and BX to enable greater alignment and opportunities.
* Work with the communications team to manage internal and external communication channels.


Purpose of the role

To provide operational and administrative support to senior leaders, shaping and executing long-term strategic change while navigating complex challenges.


Accountabilities

* Implement Target Operating Model, support business development, and manage resources, providing strategic insight.
* Oversee demand pipeline and the book of work, supporting strategic initiatives and decisions.
* Enhance operational efficiency and colleague/customer experience through process improvements.
* Manage talent development, succession planning, and diversity initiatives.
* Coordinate communication with stakeholders and across departments.
* Participate in compliance activities and support risk mitigation and business continuity plans.
* Manage organizational requirements related to technology, real estate, and people.
* Oversee risk management and compliance with internal and external requirements.
* Control costs and manage workforce planning, including financial analysis and forecasting.


Director Expectations

* Manage a business function, contribute to strategic initiatives, and influence policies.
* Lead large teams or projects, embedding a performance culture and guiding less experienced colleagues.
* Provide expert advice to senior management and influence decisions.
* Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for sub-functions.
* Ensure compliance and regulatory adherence.
* Monitor external environment and influence regulatory or advocacy groups when appropriate.
* Maintain comprehensive industry and sector knowledge, and apply it to achieve business objectives.
* Use advanced analytical skills to solve complex problems and design solutions.
* Make strategic decisions and influence stakeholders at all levels.
* Act as a principal contact and spokesperson for the function and business division.
