We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to assist in the delivery of the reserve management plan. You’ll be part of a team, assisting in the day to day running of the reserve including estate and building infrastructure, grazing and farmland management, species and habitat monitoring, forestry, deer impact, habitat management, volunteer work parties and working holidays, machinery maintenance, health & safety checks and adhering to environment procedures.
This post is for someone who enjoys working outside in all conditions, within a wonderful team of volunteers and staff, located in a remote and beautiful Highland community.
The nature reserve lies in the heart of the Flow Country, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of international importance. An area of expansive, dramatic and inspiring blanket bog set in Sutherland and Caithness in the far north of Scotland.
The reserve is important for its size and the scale at which we work, the wildlife that calls it home and the role it plays in carbon storage. The recent inscription of the Flow Country as the world’s first peatland UNESCO World Heritage site exemplifies the global value of this landscape.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Practical land management experience and delivering estate management works.
* Machinery and equipment operations.
* Servicing and maintaining vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment to agreed standards.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Biological recording electronic data input.
* Livestock management.
* Knowledge and understanding of nature conservation.
* Lantra or equivalent qualification in tractors, toppers, trailers, chainsaws, brushcutters, clearing saw, ATV sit astride & skid steer and 4x4.
Additional Information
* This role will involve lone working and working in remote locations.
* This role will require occasional weekend, early morning and evening working so will need someone who is able to be flexible.
* The role holder will require a full, manual driving licence that is valid in the UK as they'll be driving a 4x4 into remote locations.
