Overview

Job Title: Nursery Practitioner

Location: YMCA Carters Green Day Nursery, West Bromwich, B70 9LG

Responsible to: Senior Nursery Manager and Deputy Nursery Manager

Working Hours: 40 hours a week but part time may be considered

Pay Rate: £12.36 per hour

Job Role

* Motivated by the desire to help children develop, you will be part of a team providing high quality care for children from birth to 5 years and will help create a warm and welcoming environment for children and their families, with safeguarding at the core.
* Provide a warm, welcoming environment within the Nursery where young children and their families feel valued and obtain positive help and support.
* Share responsibility for safeguarding the welfare of children you come into contact with.


Duties and Responsibilities

* Offer support and guidance to parents/carers enabling them to extend their own skills, boost confidence and self-esteem, and support the emotional wellbeing of their child.
* Share responsibility for maintaining a safe, stimulating, interactive learning environment in the Nursery.
* Work within the EYFS guidelines and assist in planning, preparation and delivery of an effective programme of activities to help babies and young children develop.
* Provide stimulating learning experiences to help children grow in confidence and independence.
* Observe, assess, monitor and record children’s learning and development using a variety of methods; record observations and produce individual profiles.
* Ensure full access to an effective programme of activities for children identified as requiring additional support.
* Participate in staff meetings and provide cover for practitioners within the team as necessary.
* Work in partnership with other professionals involved with the children and their families (e.g., health visitors, Children’s centres, speech therapists).
* Assist with supervision and training of students.
* Care for sick children and those suffering minor injuries; be familiar with fire drills and safety procedures.
* Check equipment for safety and suitability; prepare resources as appropriate.
* Ensure the room is cleaned at the end of each day.
* Assist in identifying child protection issues and access personal and curriculum development opportunities.
* Undertake duties to ensure a positive multi-cultural environment, with regard to YMCA policies and Equal Opportunities & Diversity Policy and Child Protection Procedures; comply with Health & Safety regulations and Safeguarding policies.
* Operate within YMCA policies and nurseries procedures; ensure inclusive practice welcoming people of all faiths and none.
* Undertake any other related duties consistent with the job.


Person Specification

Qualification

* Essential: Childcare qualification Level 3 NVQ, equivalent, or higher

Experience

* Experience of working in a culturally diverse area with a commitment to equal opportunities, creating a welcoming environment for people of all faiths and none.

Skills

* Knowledge of Ofsted Standards
* Knowledge of Early Years Foundation Stage
* Able to speak two or more local community languages
* Motivation to work with children
* Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children
* Emotional resilience to support children with managing their behaviour

General

* Ability to travel between sites when required
* Current first aid qualification
* Commitment to YMCA values, ethos and British Values

DBS The post holder must agree to authorise an enhanced DBS check and meet Ofsted requirements.
