Overview
Programme Officer (National Contact Point/Infrastructure) – Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).
Contract Type: Open-ended. Location: Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell, Oxfordshire or Polaris House, Swindon. We offer flexible working arrangements, including some remote working.
Salary: £36,650 – £39,032 per annum. Hours: Full-time/Part-time (minimum 0.8 FTE)/Job-share considered.
We are part of UKRI and operate across science, technology, and innovation. The role is a split position covering two core areas within the Strategy, Planning and Communications (SPC) Directorate.
Responsibilities
1) National Contact Point for Research Infrastructure (RI) (50%)
* Support UK participation in Horizon Europe programmes and act as the UK subject matter expert for RI.
* Provide a helpdesk service to the UKRI community and produce regular communications materials.
* Build relationships with national and international bodies, government departments, and other countries’ NCPs.
* Influence future priorities for RI within Horizon Europe by attending Programme Committee meetings and disseminating information with UKRI networks.
* Report activities to DSIT and brief DSIT for relevant meetings and engagements.
2) Wider Infrastructure and Strategic Planning activities (50%)
* Support management of STFC’s current and future Infrastructure Fund projects and help develop bids for future rounds.
* Coordinate information gathering to inform the UKRI Infrastructure Roadmap.
* Support the FSAG Secretariat: organise meetings, plan agendas, draft papers, and ensure actions are followed up.
* Collaborate with UKRI colleagues to support cross-UKRI infrastructure planning and input STFC’s perspective in wider strategic processes.
* Provide flexible support across SPC as needed to align with Directorate priorities.
Person Specification

* Understanding of how activities fit within the wider strategic context; ability to manage and deliver accordingly.
* Ability to delegate, make informed decisions, articulate a clear vision, set priorities, and inspire others towards shared goals.
* Strong planning and organisational skills, ability to prioritise conflicting tasks, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
* Effective teamwork and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
* Appreciation of the wider RI landscape in the UK and globally; willingness to travel in the UK and abroad as required.

Additional Information
Hybrid working model encouraged. The post holder will work across STFC sites, with significant time at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (Harwell) and Polaris House (Swindon). Occasional travel may be required, costs covered by STFC. Full-time, part-time, or job-share considered; please indicate your preferred pattern when applying.
