We are currently recruiting Caseworkers from all cultures for the NSW Domestic Violence Line.

About your new role

The NSW Domestic Violence Line is a 24‑by‑7 telephone counselling and support service for victim‑survivors and their families experiencing domestic violence.

The service is staffed by female caseworkers and is currently looking to employ temporary and casual caseworkers from all cultural backgrounds. Staff will be assigned shifts according to business requirements spanning all days of the week and around the clock start times. It may be for a few hours a full shift or a block of time.

The NSW Domestic Violence Line receives calls from victim‑survivors who are experiencing or have experienced violence. As a caseworker you will also receive calls from the family community and other professionals.


What's involved

* The NSW Domestic Violence Line caseworkers provide crisis telephone counselling, safety planning, risk assessment information and support to victim‑survivors with or without children.
* You will use your counselling and engagement skills and experience to build rapport over the phone providing crisis counselling to victim‑survivors or their families.
* You will build relationships with key stakeholders to support and strengthen a victim‑survivors lived experience.
* You will support women and children by referring them to Women’s Refuges or for Temporary Accommodation as required.
* You will provide referrals to specialised domestic violence services such as legal aid, WDVCAS and others to provide support for victim‑survivors.
* You will be required to manage administrative functions and maintain accurate records for victim‑survivors.
* You will participate in professional development and training.
* You will work principally from our office in Liverpool.


Next steps

* Successful applicants will attend a training course that will provide an overview of the role of a NSW Domestic Violence Line caseworker.
* At the end of the induction training you will understand our practice mandate of dignity driven practice, motivational interviewing, trauma informed and person‑centred practice.
* Ongoing support and coaching will be provided on site as well as remotely.


Other requirements

The NSW Domestic Violence Line has an exemption under Section 25 & 51 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW) to only employ female staff.


What we're looking for

To be a Domestic Violence Line Caseworker you need to be confident, curious and resilient. The essential requirements include:

* Completed Bachelors or Masters degree in Social Work, Social Science or Welfare along with practical experience.
* Other related degrees are considered if you can demonstrate your knowledge, skills and experience working with and providing counselling to vulnerable women's families and/or communities.
* As an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Caseworker, you will need to have a connection to and at least two years' experience working with Aboriginal Women, families and/or communities.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
* A valid drivers licence (P1 or above).
* A paid working with children clearance number.
* A minimum two years of relevant industry experience.

Do you identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person? Are you from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background?

As an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Caseworker your insight and knowledge about connection to culture, kinship and community will help support victim‑survivors with their lived experience. As part of your role you will advocate support for self‑determination and use cultural knowledge to inform and shape service delivery. Your knowledge will support Aboriginal women, families and communities to be safe and provide culturally appropriate service delivery.

There is opportunity to provide Aboriginal consultation as part of your Caseworker role.

Similarly persons from a CALD background who hold cultural insight into language, migration and the refugee experience will be well equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to assist victim‑survivors seeking support.
