Job summary
Ourhaematology team is made up of a wide range of enthusiastic and passionateindividuals which includes 7 consultants (including this post), 3 specialistregistrars, 3 clinical nurse specialists, Advanced Clinical Practitioner and aPhysicians Associate. The team provides clinical and laboratory haematology servicesacross the Mid-Yorkshire Teaching Trust which has a catchment population of justunder 600,000 across 3 hospital sites. This appointment is a replacement postjoining the well-established team. The Trust is a Teaching Hospital offeringthe potential for honorary academic positions and sub-speciality interests. Wehave close links with regional academic institutions and a strong record inclinical research alongside a new clinical research and innovation facility openingwith the move to full Teaching Hospital status. Haematologyin-patient care is centralized onto the modern central Pinderfields site. Weoperate a level 3 BCSH service with autologous stem cell transplantation and independentstem cell harvesting provision (JACIE and HTA accredited). Haematologyis supported by the large Trust Research Team with dedicated haematology nursingstaff who support the weekly MDT and ward rounds alongside team meetings toplan trial activity. There are outpatient clinics held on all 2 hospital sitessupported by chemotherapy day units. The Laboratory services have fullnational accreditation.

This postholder will be based at Pinderfields, and along with colleagues will provideHaematology OPD clinics, support to the chemotherapy daycase units andin-patient ward. The post-holder will be expected to join the trustintra-thecal chemotherapy register and help deliver intra-thecal treatments.
The postholder will be required to attend the other hospital sites to support out-patient clinics, day case work and on occasions other duties as requested bysenior colleagues. There will be the opportunity to develop sub-specialty areasaccording to the experience and interests of individuals and take an activeresearch role/further develop departmental research depending on the candidateswishes.

This post is offered on a fulltime (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will beconsidered.

The postholder will share responsibility with colleagues for the supervision andtraining of junior medical staff and supporting the laboratory haematologyservice. The role of Laboratory lead is already taken but all consultant teammembers contribute with blood film and bone marrow review (although all marrowsare formally reported at the haematological malignancy diagnostic service(HMDS) in Leeds), support to the BMS led anticoagulation dosing service andblood transfusion dept. We run a weekly MDT, monthly transplant meeting /MDTand clinic with representation from the Leeds NHSBT and the Regional TransplantDirector, which the post holder will have the opportunity to contribute. Wealso run regular Quality meetings and have a dedicated haematology/transplantquality management team.
Urgent andEmergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call; schedules will take dueaccount of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working
On-call dutiesare currently shared with 6 other colleagues on a {1:6}, currently assessed as Category A 5% PA
SupportingProfessional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of SPAs includedin the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned inline with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements ofthe service.
