This is a part-time post within the Colorectal Team, part of the wider surgical services business unit.
This post is to act as the first point of contact for all forms of communication for the Surgical Consultants and their team. It involves monitoring the timetable of the consultant team, overseeing outpatient commitments, and communicating appointment and admission-related information to patients and/or carers.
To support the administrative pathway ensuring patients are seen within the mandatory waiting time targets.
Main duties of the job
To progress the patient’s pathway, ensuring the trust reduces the wait to treatment in line with national targets and guidance.
To ensure the success of clinical typing requirements.
To coordinate and be responsible for providing full secretarial and administrative services to the Consultant and team.
Day-to-day management of the Consultant’s diary, including organising clinic commitments, arranging appointments, and scheduling procedures.
To maintain an overview of the consultant and team timetable to ensure full utilization of clinic and theatre availability.
To arrange special investigations and handle issues arising from clinic appointments, ensuring tasks are prioritized according to urgency.

Training and Qualifications
* Good standard of general education including English Language and Maths at GCSE or equivalent
* Previous NHS experience
* Formal secretarial/senior administration training
Experience and Knowledge
* Experience in supervising a team
* Experience/knowledge of the 18-week pathway
* Evidence of job-related achievements and success from previous employment
* Experience of using databases
* NHS experience in an Acute Trust
* Good insight into NHS performance and quality standards
Skills and Ability
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to motivate staff
* Computer skills including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
* Ability to analyze complex situations and make appropriate decisions
