Role Title: Self-Employed Art Psychotherapist
Client Group: Vulnerable Children and Young People
Location: Various within Bournemouth area (BCP) (e.g., schools, community settings, or therapy rooms)

Role Overview:
As a self-employed Art Psychotherapist with our charity, you will use creative therapeutic techniques to support the emotional, psychological, and social well-being of vulnerable children and young people, many of whom are neurodivergent/have experienced trauma. You will work in partnership with schools, social services, families, and other professionals to provide a safe, non-judgemental space for clients to explore their feelings and experiences through art.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-to-one sessions tailored to the needs of children and young people.
Create a safe and confidential therapeutic environment that supports creative expression and emotional development.
Assess the mental health needs of clients and develop appropriate treatment plans.
Maintain detailed, confidential records in line with professional standards and legal requirements (e.g. GDPR).
Communicate and collaborate effectively with families, schools, social workers, and other professionals.
Participate in regular clinical supervision as required by HCPC and BAAT guidelines.
Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance clinical skills.
Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures and respond appropriately to concerns or disclosures.
Manage your own caseload, diary, and administrative tasks in line with self-employment practices.
Person Specification:
MA or equivalent in Art Psychotherapy
HCPC registration as an Art Psychotherapist
Safeguarding training
Experience working with children and young people, particularly those who are vulnerable or have experienced trauma
Strong understanding of child development, attachment theory, and trauma-informed practice
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills
Ability to work autonomously and manage a self-employed caseload
Ability to travel to and work within the BCP council area
Membership of BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists)
Experience working in educational, social care, or community settings
Additional training in CATT or EMDR
