Are you enthusiastic about Infection Prevention and Control? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5/6 Nurse or Practitioner to join the IPC Team here at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.
The role includes assisting in the surveillance and investigation of healthcare-associated infections, providing education and training on infection control topics, providing advice for the management of patients with alert organisms and working towards IPC competencies to take this role to the next level in which you would be responsible for additional tasks such as managing outbreaks and infection control emergencies, as well as line management.
Main duties of the job
This diverse role would see the successful applicant providing clinical advice for colleagues, patients and carers/relatives as well as supporting staff to maintain the highest standards of infection prevention and control.
The applicant should preferably have experience of being an IPC link nurse and/or show an understanding in infection prevention. They must also be able to demonstrate a passion for protecting patients from preventable infections and have demonstrable leadership qualities which support them to act as a positive role model and inspire others.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The job description is that of the Band 6 IPC Nurse, as this is the ultimate aim of this trainee post. Throughout the training period, the trainee will take part in a number of these responsibilities under the supervision of a mentor until such a time that the competencies are completed and both the staff member and the mentor mutually agree that progression to Band 6 IPC Nurse is complete.

* Registered Nurse/Midwife with valid NMC registration
* Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
* Further education around specific infection prevention topics such as Environmental Infection Control, Decontamination
* Post-registration qualification in Infection Control at Degree Level (Certificate in Infection Control or equivalent)
* Recognised teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent
Experience
* Relevant experience working at AFC Band 5 (or equivalent) within an acute healthcare environment.
* Experience as Infection Prevention and Control Link Worker or able to demonstrate specific application of Infection Prevention and Control knowledge in clinical areas
* Experience of implementing changes in clinical practice
* Experience in a management/leadership post
* Sound understanding of control of infection concepts
* Demonstrate ability in the use computer software packages internet and hospital networks
* Ability to understand, absorb and comply with detailed procedures
* Research or audit experience
Knowledge and Skills
* IT/Computer Skills including working knowledge of MS Office packages
