Summary:
As a key member of the project team reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Package Engineer will oversee the design, coordination, and management of multiple subcontractors across various trades within their designated area of works. This role demands effective interfacing with internal departments and external stakeholders including architects, engineers, client agents, clerk of works, and site staff. The Package Engineer will ensure subcontractor obligations under are clearly understood and fulfilled.
Responsibilities include organising and leading regular site progress meetings with subcontractors to monitor progress, quality, and safety, while keeping the Chief Engineer and Project Manager/Project Director informed of all relevant issues. A primary focus will be on setting out and ensuring the smooth delivery of assigned packages.
The ideal candidate will be degree qualified in civil engineering, construction management, or a related discipline, with proven experience in package management. Experience as a Temporary Works Coordinator is advantageous. A strong knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant regulations and quality standards is essential. The role also requires the candidate to have or be working towards professional membership in a relevant construction industry body such as ICE, CIOB, RICS, CIBSE, or IStructE.
Skills:
Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field
Proven experience in package management
Ability to prepare short-term (3 week) look-ahead programmes with support from project planners
Strong knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards
Experience coordinating and managing subcontractors
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to interface effectively with internal teams and external agencies
Understanding and application of subcontractor obligations
Experience or knowledge of Temporary Works Coordination (advantageous)
Working towards or holding professional construction industry membership (e.g. ICE, CIOB, RICS, CIBSE, IStructE)
Software/Tools:
Common construction management and scheduling software (e.g. Microsoft Office, project planning tools)
Certifications & Standards:
Professional membership or working towards membership in relevant construction bodies (ICE, CIOB, RICS, CIBSE, IStructE, etc)
Knowledge of relevant construction regulations and quality standards
CSCS (essential), SMSTS (desirable)
Temporary Works Coordinator certification (desirable)
