Join our regional level 3 unit, performing autologous stem cell transplants and treating complex Myeloma, Acute leukaemia and Lymphoma patients. Develop a subspecialty interest in Myeloma and become involved in teaching, training and research. Live in a beautiful part of Lancashire.
We are looking to appoint
Substantive consultant to complete our team of five consultants. You will be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest in Myeloma, supported by experienced colleagues. The unit currently includes five specialty Trainees, two specialty doctors, and a team of clinical scientists and nurse practitioners.
Responsibilities
The role will be on our JACIE-accredited regional unit that treats acute leukaemia, relapsed/refractory lymphoma, Burkitt’s lymphoma and undertakes autologous stem cell transplants. We aim to treat as many patients as possible at home through our ambulatory chemotherapy unit, with plans to develop on-site patient accommodation. The unit has a strong track record in research, and teaching is encouraged for specialist registrars, junior doctors and medical students through links with the University and its medical school partnerships.
What you will do
* Contribute to a high-quality haemato-oncology service within a multidisciplinary team.
* Develop and lead subspecialty activity in Myeloma.
* Participate in teaching, training and clinical governance activities.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
* Primary medical qualification
* Full and Specialist registration with the General Medical Council and license to practice, or eligible for registration within six months of interview
* MRCP or equivalent
* FRCPath or equivalent
* UK-trained applicants must be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award by date of interview
* Non-UK trained applicants must show evidence of equivalence to UK CCT

* Higher degree
Training
* SpR or equivalent training in Haematology
* Evidence of appropriate CPD
Desirable
* Full log book summary
Experience
* Broad exposure to all aspects of clinical and laboratory haematology, including recent experience in managing acute leukaemia
Desirable: Specialist interest in an area of haematology
Research, audit and professionalism
* Ability to supervise audit projects and understand principles of research and audit
* Regular attendance at audit meetings
* Evidence of recent research activity and publications preferred
* Enthusiasm and commitment to the specialty; membership of appropriate societies desirable
Personal and leadership skills
* Ability to work well as a team member and lead when required
* Strong organisational, teaching and communication skills in English
* Experience in supervising other staff and understanding Clinical Governance
Management
* Awareness of NHS management issues; management training desirable
