Project Accountant
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Project Accountant to act as a key link between Finance and operational project teams. This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in supporting financial performance across a portfolio of projects, ensuring accurate reporting and providing valuable commercial insight in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
The Role
You will work closely with Finance Managers, Project Managers, and the wider finance team to support the full lifecycle of project accounting—from initial set-up through to completion. This role offers strong exposure to both financial and operational stakeholders, making it ideal for someone looking to develop their career in project accounting.
Key Responsibilities
* Support project teams with end-to-end project accounting, including ownership of relevant systems and processes
* Produce weekly and monthly management reports covering project and people metrics (profitability, WIP, accounts receivable, utilisation, sales rates, multipliers, and KPIs)
* Partner with project teams on monthly revenue recognition, including variance analysis (actual vs budget) and forecast updates
* Deliver finance inductions and provide ongoing financial guidance and training to project teams
* Ensure robust financial reporting across projects, challenging assumptions and performance where appropriate
* Investigate and explain project variances, providing clear insight and reporting to management
* Monitor and report on working capital, including WIP, receivables, and cash flow
* Support the wider finance team with daily activities such as accounts payable, audits, and statutory reporting
About You
* Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
* Currently studying towards (or planning to study towards) a professional accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA)
* 1–3 years’ experience in a similar finance or project accounting role
* Previous experience in a consulting or professional services environment (e.g. engineering, architecture, or design) is highly desirable
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate financial information to non-finance stakeholders
* Proactive, organised, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
